Role Overview
The Product Definition Analyst serves as a functional expert for the Baggage Reconciliation System (BRS) within Alta Departure Control System (DCS). The role focuses on creating clear specifications, designing endtoend solutions, and supporting product stability for departure and arrival baggage workflows. It combines knowledge of airport and ground handling operations with strong product definition skills and contributes to knowledge sharing within the Product Definition community.
About The Product
The Baggage Reconciliation System (BRS) supports secure and accurate baggage handling by ensuring every checked bag is tracked and loaded onto the correct flight, following International Air Transport Association (IATA) standards. Effective baggage management is critical for security, passenger satisfaction, operational efficiency, and maintaining customer trust.
Key Responsibilities
- Product Definition & Solution Architecture
- Contribute to specifications for complex BRS features such as baggage logistics, aircraft loading rules, ramp workflows, scanning and barcode types, and interactions with partner systems.
- Collaborate with Solution Definition and Architecture teams to evaluate design options, considering safety, performance, scalability, and cost.
- Translate airport and ground handling scenarios into clear and configurable system behaviors.
- Ensure specifications are clear, testable, traceable and aligned with adjacent systems like Checkin and Flight Management.
- Maintain strong collaboration with engineering teams to support shared understanding of solution designs.
- Functional Leadership & Delivery Excellence
- Conduct structured analysis of complex business problems across teams and provide wellreasoned recommendations.
- Partner with Quality Assurance and Development to confirm specification readiness and support test strategy coverage.
- Review estimations and crossfunctional sizing with constructive feedback.
- Support smooth transitions from requirements through implementation and production.
- Promote consistent product definition practices across teams.
- Compliance & Production Integrity
- Promote compliance with industry standards for baggage tracking and messaging (e.g., IATA, International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)).
- Review design implementations and test evidence for alignment with standards and internal processes.
- Investigate, validate and prioritize production incidents, contributing to recovery plans and risk assessments.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen preventive controls.
- Collaborate with teams to maintain overall production integrity.
- Customer Collaboration, PreSales & Market Inputs
- Engage with customers and ground handlers to clarify business needs and convert requirements into stable product concepts.
- Support presales activities and Requests for Proposal (RFP) / Requests for Information (RFI) by contributing to solution descriptions and scope definitions.
- Provide insights to Product Management based on market trends and customer feedback.
- Participate in business requirement assessments including Business Requirements Matrix (BRM).
- Communicate complex topics clearly to diverse stakeholders.
- Quality, Documentation & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain process compliance across requirements, standards and traceability expectations.
- Enhance documentation to improve clarity, completeness and usability.
- Establish effective feedback loops with internal and external users to identify root causes and propose improvements.
- Develop reusable templates and guidelines for specifications and traceability.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of product definition practices.
- Coaching, Community & Knowledge Sharing

- Share knowledge across Product Definition Analysts (PDAs), engineers and QA teams through coaching, demos and familiarization sessions.
- Support ongoing capability building in BRS domain and modeling techniques.
- Contribute to community discussions and bestpractice development.
- Provide content for product documentation and customerfacing materials.
- Participate in internal roadshow activities and crossteam learning.

Qualifications
MustHave
- Typically brings 8+ years of experience in product definition or similar roles within airline operations.
- Understanding of baggage handling processes, makeup area operations, aircraft loading concepts, and arrival/departure flows.
- Experience developing functional specifications and contributing to crossfunctional solution design.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering teams on interfaces, configurations and functional architecture.
- Clear and effective communication and facilitation skills.
NicetoHave
- Exposure to checkin flows, bag load operations, and baggagerelated device or barcode standards.
- Familiarity with aviationsoftware safety considerations and related compliance frameworks.
- Experience supporting presales or RFP/RFI phases and conducting BRM assessments.
