Who You Are:

A person who takes ownership in end-to-end sourcing of APIs, intermediates, excipients, and packaging materials across Business development and R&D functions. This is a strategic, high-impact role responsible for vendor governance, cost optimization, supply assurance, and compliance, while also supporting new product development (NPD) initiatives.

Responsibilities:

1. Procurement & Strategic Sourcing

  • Manage material procurement: APIs, intermediates, excipients, packaging for commercial & development use.
  • Build and execute sourcing strategies aligned with quality, regulatory, and financial goals.
  • Identify alternate/secondary sources and manage vendor life cycle across global and domestic supplier base.

2. Budgeting, Cost Optimization & Commercial Ownership

  • Manage procurement budgets and monthly forecasting for direct categories.
  • Drive savings through cost modelling, vendor consolidation, contract negotiations, and value engineering.
  • Collaborate with Finance and SCM to monitor variances and maintain budgetary discipline.

3. Supplier Management & Quality Compliance

  • Develop and maintain Supplier Quality Agreements (SQAs) and ensure SOP compliance.
  • Manage vendor audits, performance metrics, and regulatory preparedness (GMP, SEZ, EOU, FDA) and mitigate risks through vendor diversification and commercial due diligence.

4. Support for New Product Development (NPD)

  • Partner with R&D, RA, and manufacturing for sourcing during development, tech transfer, and scale-up stages.
  • Ensure timely availability of trial batches, validation materials, and regulatory documentation.
  • Proactively plan procurement for new formulations, or backward integration initiatives.

5. SOPs, Documentation and reporting

  • Maintain procurement SOPs and documentation for audit readiness.
  • Use ERP SAP MM to manage procurement operations, vendor masters, PO tracking, and dashboards.
  • Generate reports on spend analysis, savings, sourcing lead times, and procurement KPIs.

Skills Required:

  • Procurement Systems: SAP MM
  • Regulatory Understanding: GMP, cGMP, FDA, SEZ/EOU compliance
  • Commercial Acumen: Budgeting, RFQ/RFPs
  • Supplier Management: Audits, scorecards, SLA governance
  • Documentation: SQAs, SOPs, contracts, change notifications
  • Analytical Thinking: Cost optimization, risk analysis, scenario planning
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Cross-functional collaboration with QA, RA, R&D, BD

Qualifications:

  • Education: B, Pharm / M.Sc. / B.Tech (Chemical) + MBA/PGDM (Supply Chain/Operations preferred)
  • Experience: 8+ years in Procurement within Pharma (Formulation, API, excipients, packaging)
  • ERP expertise (SAP) and demonstrated ability in leading cost or quality improvement projects
