Role Overview
The Data Modelling lead Asia will lead the Asia Data Modelling Unit and be accountable for defining, governing, and delivering enterprise-wide data models across multiple Asian markets.
This role is responsible for establishing a scalable, standardized, and KPI-driven data modelling framework, spanning the Atomic Layer (Data Vault 2.0) and Analytical Layer (FactDimension models), enabling trusted analytics, regulatory reporting, and business decision-making across Asia.
The role requires a strong blend of strategic leadership, deep data modelling expertise, and business stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Asia Data Modelling Strategy
- Own and drive the Asia-level Data Modelling strategy aligned to the enterprise data backbone.
- Define modelling standards across:
- Atomic Layer (Data Vault 2.0)
- Analytical Layer (Star / Snowflake models)
- Ensure models are scalable, reusable, and consistent across markets and lines of business.
- Leadership Asia Data Modelling Unit
- Build and lead a centralized Asia Data Modelling CoE.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and technical directions to:
- Lead Data Modelers
- Senior Data Modelers
- Market-aligned modelling resources
- Establish clear ways of working, review mechanisms, and quality controls.
- Drive capability uplift and succession planning within the modelling unit.
- KPI-Driven Modelling & Business Alignment
- Partner with Business, Finance, Actuarial, and Distribution teams to:
- Translate KPI definitions into robust data models
- Ensure end-to-end traceability from KPI Analytical Layer Atomic Layer Source
- Act as the final design authority for KPI-critical data models.
- Ensure cross-market KPI consistency while supporting local business nuances.
- Market Engagement & Stakeholder Management
- Serve as the primary data modelling interface for Asia markets.
- Lead modelling workshops and design sign-offs with:
- Business SMEs
- Business Analysts / System Analysts
- Solution Designers and Data Engineers
- Communicate complex modelling concepts in a business-friendly manner to senior stakeholders.
- Delivery Oversight & Quality Assurance
- Oversee delivery of high-quality modelling artefacts including:
- Hubs, Links, Satellites, PITs
- Facts, Dimensions, Aggregates
- Reference and Hierarchy models
- Enforce design standards, review checkpoints, and best practices.
- Resolve complex modelling challenges and cross-domain dependencies.
- Governance, Standards & Documentation
- Define and maintain:
- Modelling standards, naming conventions, and design patterns
- Reference architectures and modelling playbooks
- Ensure alignment with data governance, lineage, and audit requirements.
- Maintain consistency between Asia-level standards and market-specific implementations.
- Continuous Improvement & Transformation
- Identify opportunities to simplify models, improve performance, and accelerate KPI delivery.
- Introduce modelling accelerators, templates, and reusable patterns.
- Support the long-term maturity roadmap of the Asia Data Backbone.
Skills & Experience
Mandatory
- 10+ years of experience in Data & Analytics with strong specialization in Data Modelling.
- Deep hands-on experience with:
- Data Vault 2.0
- Dimensional Modelling (Star Schema)
- Proven experience leading enterprise or regional data modelling teams.
- Strong exposure to KPI-driven analytics across Finance, Actuarial, Operations, or Distribution.
- Experience working in multi-market / multi-country environments.
Functional Expertise
- Strong understanding of:
- KPI definitions and calculation logic
- Source-to-target traceability
- Data quality and reconciliation concepts
