Role Description:
We have an exciting opportunity for a BIM Modeler (Protection and Control) to join our growing Energy Team as we widen our skills to remain at the forefront of our industry and support the country's journey to zero carbon emissions through our Energy Transition goals.

We manage the design and support in delivery of a variety of technical projects for UK energy market working with utilities like Scottish Power (SPEN), Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE), renewable developers working on both onshore and offshore windfarms, Solar parks, BESS systems etc. and collaborate with EPC contractors.
This role will be primarily associated with our onshore Engineering Frameworks, where you will be exposed to design inputs associated with the construction of new and refurbishment of existing substations electrical infrastructure up to 400kV to support network upgrades and connection of renewable generation. You will have the opportunity to support our offshore portfolio of works on an ad-hoc basis as this continues to grow.
Role Accountabilities:
Individual / Technical Responsibilities
- Ensure project documents are accurate, clear, concise, and compliant with best practices and applicable project standards.
- Resolve complex technical drafting issues.
- Lead and support automation initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
- Ensure the drafting scope is delivered within budget and timelines.
- Manage documentation, including preparation and maintenance of drawing registers.
- Develop BEPs and BIM project workflow criteria for complex projects through appropriate research.
- Develop and maintain BIM content standards.
- Conduct regular model audits to ensure accuracy and compliance with naming conventions.
- Demonstrate strong self-motivation and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Possess good working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools.
- Adapt to new tasks and challenges based on evolving business requirements.
- Maintain compliance with the Arcadis business management system.
Team Interaction & Technical Support
- Mentor drafting team members and support their professional development.
- Provide technical advice and guidance to project team members.
- Assist in developing team members to perform at their full potential.
- Promote awareness and compliance with relevant Health & Safety regulations within the team.
Stakeholder Management & Collaboration
- Build and maintain professional working relationships with Project Managers.
- Ensure familiarity with, and compliance to, relevant Health & Safety regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by your manager as required.
- Communicate effectively at all levels using strong interpersonal skills
Qualifications & Experience:
- DEE / B.E in Electrical Engineering from a recognized University.
- Strong drafting expertise in substation protection and control drawings, including protection panel GA, schematics, cable schedules, wiring diagrams, and SCADA-related documentation.
- Proficiency in BIM-related tools, including AutoCAD, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), and BIM 360.
- Experience with electrical schematic design software such as E-Plan or equivalent platforms (advantageous).
- Capability to develop automation workflows and standardize processes.
- Strong understanding of documentation practices aligned with UK standards, including BS EN ISO 19650, BS 8536, and project-specific BEP requirements.
- Proficiency in working with multiple software platforms with a solid understanding of interoperability for discipline-specific tasks.
- Ability to prepare and maintain a master drawing list, ensuring accurate document status and timely client submissions.
- 14+ years of experience in substation design, particularly in protection and control schematics and panel wiring design.
- Prior experience working on UK-based projects (advantageous).
- Familiarity with UK codes, standards, and industry practices is essential; experience with standards from the USA, Europe, and Australia is an added advantage.
- Experience in consultancy environments, especially within the energy and utilities sector.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, supported by good analytical abilities and proficiency in computer applications.
