Principal BIM Modeler - S&I

Job Description

WSP is seeking to recruit a Principal BIM Modeler - S&I join the System & Infrastructure II UK team. The successful candidate will lead the CAD delivery for National Highways Scheme Delivery Framework projects. This role involves managing a CAD team, coordinating with engineers, and ensuring high quality, compliant drawings and digital deliverables across all SDF design stages, from feasibility to detailed design and construction.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage CAD delivery for SDF schemes, ensuring all drawings and models meet National Highways requirements and SDF specific standards.
• Oversee preparation of key II and SDF projects drawing deliverables including, CCTV/MIDAS/ERT, cabinet and chamber drawings, ducting layouts, corridor models, and cross section drawings.
• Conduct internal QA reviews and ensure all outputs are audit ready for each submission stage.
• Allocate drafting tasks, manage workloads, and supervise CAD technicians to maintain quality and consistency.
• Collaborate closely with engineers to interpret design inputs, resolve queries, and convert mark ups into accurate drawings.
• Coordinate design reviews, incorporate feedback, and maintain version control through ProjectWise and ACC.
• Use ProjectWise, ACC, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, and Revit for drawing production, modelling, file management, and coordination.
• Develop, maintain, and enforce CAD standards, templates, naming conventions, and drawing procedures specifically for SDF delivery.
• Provide mentorship, guidance, and technical support to team members to strengthen capability and ensure efficient SDF delivery.
• Follow all WSP and project specific Health & Safety processes and digital delivery procedures.
• Assist in developing and mentoring junior team members.
  
  

Qualifications

• Diploma or Bachelor of Engineering (Civil, Electrical, or related discipline). Additional CAD/BIM software certifications (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, MicroStation, ACC) are desirable.
  
  

Experience Requirements

• 10+ years of hands‑on experience in Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and related technologies.
  
  

Mandatory Skills

• Hands-on experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D
• Experience working with ACC, ProjectWise and SharePoint
• Competency in workload planning, task allocation, and time estimation
• High proficiency in MicroStation, Revit, ACC for drawing production and coordination
  
  

Key Competencies

• Ability to utilise ProjectWise, SharePoint, AutoCAD, Civil3D in adherence to defined CAD & BIM standards to develop 3D modelling, layouts, labelling, dimensioning, sheet layout, design details and other appropriate design concepts.
• Ability to read and interpret 2D and 3D CAD drawings and models to assist with investigations of engineering problems.
• Proven ability to work up drawings (plans, sections & details) from Engineers basic sketches to full working drawings.
• Ability to liaise with the design teams as necessary to coordinate design and drawing production.
• Capable of handling multiple responsibilities with the ability to accurately predict the time required to fulfil the individual scopes of work required.
• Assists with establishing, maintaining, and enforcing the use of proper CAD standards and procedures.
• Undertake reviews of work produced by others to ensure high quality of CAD output.
• UK project experience on Intelligent Transportation System, East west Rail and working knowledge of UK design standard will be preferred.
• You should be able to understand and communicate BIM and CAD standards for use on highway engineering projects and possessing an appropriate overall level of knowledge of the UK infrastructure design sector.
• Proficient in the use of standard MS office software.
• Experience in supervising and coordinating the CAD output of others within a multidisciplinary project environment.
• Commitment to work as part of a design team focused on project delivery.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
