We are seeking an experienced Power BI Administrator to manage, govern, and optimise our organisation's Power BI environment. This role ensures platform stability, user management, performance tuning, and adherence to data governance policies across the Power BI tenant.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and manage the Power BI Service (tenant-level) including workspaces, capacity, and premium settings.
- Configure and maintain Power BI Gateway (on-premises and VNet) for secure data source connectivity.
- Manage user access, roles, and licensing across the Power BI tenant (Pro, PPU, Fabric).
- Monitor and optimise Power BI capacity performance; manage Premium/Embedded capacity and utilisation metrics.
- Establish and enforce data governance policies, row-level security (RLS), and object-level security (OLS) standards.
- Configure deployment pipelines for Dev/UAT/Prod lifecycle management of Power BI content.
- Manage data refresh schedules, diagnose refresh failures, and maintain gateway data source credentials.
- Integrate Power BI with Azure Active Directory, Azure DevOps, and Microsoft Purview for cataloguing and governance.
- Monitor activity logs, audit logs, and usage metrics using Power BI Admin REST APIs and PowerShell.
- Work with report developers and business stakeholders to provide platform support and best-practice guidance.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- 3–6 years of experience in Power BI administration or BI platform management.
- Deep understanding of Power BI Service architecture: workspaces, datasets, dataflows, datamarts, and apps.
- Experience managing Power BI Gateway clusters and data source configurations.
- Proficiency with PowerShell scripts and Power BI REST APIs for automation and monitoring.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Fabric and its integration with Power BI (OneLake, Lakehouse, Synapse).
- Familiarity with Azure AD, Conditional Access Policies, and SSO configuration.
- Understanding of DAX and M (Power Query) at a functional level to assist developers.
Preferred / Good to Have
- Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300) or Fabric Analytics Engineer (DP-600).
- Experience with Microsoft Purview for data cataloguing and lineage.
- Knowledge of Azure Analysis Services or SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS).
- Exposure to DevOps practices: Git, CI/CD pipelines for BI content.
