Job Description

Overview:

Guidepoint is an enterprise software organization embarking on a modernization strategy from a legacy monolith to a cloud-native, Kubernetes-based environment. With multiple product and platform teams delivering reusable services across the enterprise, We are seeking a highly experienced PostgreSQL Database Administrator and Architect to design, operate, and evolve PostgreSQL platforms that support cloud-native, microservices-based applications. This role is critical to ensuring our data layer is scalable, resilient, secure, and aligned with Kubernetes-driven architectures.

You will work closely with platform engineering, DevOps, SRE, and application teams to design PostgreSQL architectures that seamlessly support containerized workloads, distributed systems, and high-throughput microservices. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring deep PostgreSQL expertise combined with modern cloud and Kubernetes experience. This role is essential for driving modernization, reducing duplication, accelerating delivery, and building a cohesive, future-ready enterprise architecture.

This position is a hybrid position out of our Pune office.

What You'll Do:

  • Design, deploy, and operate PostgreSQL on Kubernetes for microservices, ensuring scalability, isolation, resilience, and support for stateless, horizontally scaled workloads.
  • Architect and manage Azure PostgreSQL (Flexible Server, Hyperscale/Citus) with HA/DR, global scale, and lead cloud migrations/modernization from legacy platforms.
  • Define and implement database design patterns (database-per-service, shared services, read replicas) and distributed architectures (replication, logical decoding, sharding, multi-region, event-driven/CDC flows).
  • Enable application integration via CI/CD, zero-downtime deployments, schema evolution, and Kubernetes connectivity patterns (PgBouncer, pooling, sidecars, service mesh).
  • Lead performance tuning, capacity planning, and troubleshoot deep PostgreSQL internals (autovacuum, WAL, MVCC, locking, query planner, background processes) for high-throughput, bursty workloads.
  • Implement security and compliance (Azure AD, encryption in transit/at rest, Private Link, CMK) and ensure alignment with enterprise standards.
  • Build and maintain automation and IaC (Terraform, Bicep, Azure DevOps, Python, Bash, PowerShell) and establish observability and monitoring.
  • Define best practices, data ownership models, and consistency boundaries (DDD), mentor engineers, and act as an escalation point for mission-critical systems.

Required Technical Qualifications:

  • 8+ years in database administration, software architecture, cloud, or platform engineering.
  • Expertise in PostgreSQL (performance tuning, backup/recovery, high availability) in Kubernetes/containerized environments.
  • Strong knowledge of microservices, distributed systems, DDD, and domain decomposition.
  • Experience with cloud-native design, modernization strategies, and patterns (CQRS, Saga, Event Sourcing, Circuit Breakers).
  • Proficiency in programming/scripting for application assessment and modernization.
  • Experience with authentication & identity (Auth0, OIDC, OAuth2, SSO).
  • Knowledge of API architecture (REST, GraphQL, gateways), service mesh, and ingress/egress patterns.
  • Experience with event-driven systems and messaging (Kafka, Azure Service Bus).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD, Helm, GitOps, and DevOps tooling.
  • Experience leveraging AI-powered tools for PostgreSQL administration and operations.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive compensation
  • Employee medical coverage
  • Central office location
  • Entrepreneurial environment, autonomy, and fast decisions
  • Casual work environment
