Job Description
Role purpose
Lead the PostgreSQL database capability across GCP and hybrid environments,
combining hands on technical leadership with people management. You will be
accountable for secure, resilient, high-performing database services, and for building a
high performing team that partners effectively with engineering, SRE, security, and
architecture.
Experience Required (minimum)
10+ years in database engineering/administration, with 5+ years managing
PostgreSQL in production at scale.
3+ years in a lead role with people management responsibilities (e.g., hiring,
performance management, coaching, objective setting).
Proven ownership of 24x7 production operations: incident leadership, problem
management, RCA, and service improvement.
Demonstrable delivery of high availability and disaster recovery for
PostgreSQL (tested failover, backup/restore validation, defined RPO/RTO).
Strong track record partnering with application teams on schema design,
performance tuning, and release readiness.
Experience driving automation and standardisation (Infrastructure as Code,
CI/CD, repeatable build patterns).
GCP Cloud Experience (required)
Hands on experience running PostgreSQL on Google Cloud Platform, including
One Or More Of
Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL (preferred)
Compute Engine hosted PostgreSQL (where applicable)
Containerised patterns on GKE (where appropriate)
