Job Description

About the Research Group

The Acoustics Research Group at the Transportation Research and Injury Prevention Centre (TRIP-C), IIT Delhi conducts interdisciplinary research in engineering acoustics, transportation noise, and sound perception in complex urban environments. The group focuses on developing advanced methods for acoustic measurement, signal processing, modelling, and health impact assessment of environmental noise.

The laboratory works across several research themes including traffic noise exposure modelling in heterogeneous traffic conditions, wind turbine acoustic monitoring and condition monitoring systems, electric vehicle acoustic warning signals, automotive acoustics, and human perception of sound environments. The research integrates field measurements, numerical modelling, psychoacoustic analysis, and data-driven approaches to address engineering and environmental noise challenges.

Role Description

The Environmental Acoustics Research Group invites applications for Postdoctoral Fellow positions to work on research projects related to transportation acoustics, environmental noise, and acoustic systems. The positions offer flexibility in research focus, and candidates will be assigned specific research tasks based on their technical expertise and research interests.

The selected researchers will contribute to one or more ongoing research areas including traffic noise monitoring and exposure modelling, wind turbine acoustics and condition monitoring, electric vehicle acoustic warning systems, automotive acoustics, psychoacoustic evaluation of sound, and acoustic simulation of complex systems.

Depending on their background, candidates may work on field measurements and environmental noise monitoring, acoustic signal processing and feature extraction, numerical modelling and simulation of acoustic systems, or experimental studies of human perception and response to sound environments.

The role includes conducting independent research, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals, presenting work at conferences, contributing to proposal development, and mentoring students involved in laboratory research.

Research Areas

  • Postdoctoral fellows may contribute to one or more of the following research areas, depending on their expertise:
  • Environmental and transportation noise monitoring and modelling
  • Traffic noise exposure assessment and urban noise mapping
  • Wind turbine acoustics and acoustic condition monitoring
  • Acoustic Vehicle Alerting Systems (AVAS) and electric vehicle sound design
  • Automotive acoustics and vehicle interior sound quality
  • Finite element modelling and vibro-acoustic simulations
  • Psychoacoustics and sound perception studies
  • Urban soundscape analysis and human response to environmental noise
  • Acoustic signal processing and machine learning for sound analysis

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct environmental noise monitoring and acoustic measurements in urban and transportation environments.
  • Analyse acoustic data and develop signal processing methods for environmental and engineering sound sources.
  • Develop numerical models and simulations for acoustic propagation, structural vibration, and vibro-acoustic systems.
  • Perform psychoacoustic analysis and perception studies related to sound quality and noise annoyance.
  • Contribute to acoustic system design and evaluation for transportation and mobility systems.
  • Publish research findings in international peer-reviewed journals and present work at scientific conferences.
  • Support preparation of research proposals and technical project reports.
  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate students involved in research activities.
