Job Description

A Portfolio Officer in Agriculture Business is responsible for managing and growing a portfolio of agricultural clients by offering financial products, assessing risk, and ensuring compliance. Key duties include sourcing new business, managing loan and working capital facilities, conducting field investigations, preparing credit appraisals, monitoring accounts for delinquency, and building strong relationships with customers and internal teams. 

Key responsibilities

  • Client relationship management: Build and maintain a robust customer base, deepen relationships through cross-selling, and provide high levels of service.
  • New business acquisition: Source new clients, conduct field investigations, and assess potential business opportunities within the agri sector.
  • Portfolio management: Manage and grow the existing customer portfolio by offering loan products for working capital and term loans.
  • Credit and risk assessment: Evaluate loan applications, prepare credit appraisal notes, and conduct field investigations to assess risk and ensure security perfection.
  • Compliance and monitoring: Monitor accounts regularly to prevent delinquencies, ensure portfolio hygiene, and track compliance with financial obligations.
  • Collaboration: Work with internal teams such as credit, legal, and risk to meet customer requirements.
  • Channel development: Identify and develop channel partners to help achieve business targets. 

Qualifications and skills

  • Education: A degree in a related field like business, finance, or agriculture is often required. Some roles may accept fresh graduates from relevant programs like CA or MBA.
  • Experience: Experience in asset and liability management, banking, or rural business-focused industries is often preferred, especially in managing agri-related loans.
  • Skills: Strong oral and written communication, excellent relationship management, analytical skills, and a customer-focused attitude are essential.
  • Other desirable traits: Adaptability, critical thinking, and business acumen are also important for success in this role.
