Job Description

We are seeking a Physical Design Engineer with 2-5 years of experience in substation design. The ideal candidate will be an Electrical Engineer with a strong background in creating primary electrical design deliverables for a variety of projects. This role requires an individual who is not only skilled in design but also capable of mentoring, collaborating, and solving complex problems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engineering Design: Prepare detailed engineering drawings for EHV (Extra High Voltage) projects for both AIS and GIS substations. This includes creating general arrangement plans, elevations, conduit layouts, grounding layouts, and lighting & lightning protection designs.
  • Calculations & Analysis: Conduct and prepare design calculations using specialized software like CDEGS, ETAP, Mathcad, and Visual Lighting. You will also be responsible for AIS Busbar design and reports.
  • Project Management: Prepare proposals, scope development, and engineering cost and man-hour estimates. You will coordinate with other departments, monitor project schedules, and ensure deliverables are submitted with high quality.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced team members. You will perform quality reviews for other engineers and designers, helping to develop and improve processes and tools.
  • Collaboration: Review designs, attend virtual client meetings, and coordinate with teams across different offices. You will work to ensure all design packages are compliant with client technical standards and international codes like IEC, IEEE, and NESC.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Experience: A minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 5 years of experience in substation physical design.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as NESC, IEEE, and IEC.
  • Experience with software like CDEGS and WinIGS is preferred.
  • Experience with physical design 3D tools is a plus.
  • Personal Attributes: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong analytical and critical thinking abilities, and a methodical, problem-solving approach. You must be able to manage tasks on multiple projects and work effectively both autonomously and as part of a team.
