1. Design DevelopmentPrepare concept, schematic, and detailed design of Public Health Engineering (PHE) and Fire Fighting systems in compliance with local and international codes (e.g., NBC, IS standards, NFPA, UPC, IPC, DEWA, DCD, etc.).
Design water supply, drainage, sewage, rainwater harvesting, irrigation, and firefighting systems for buildings and infrastructure projects.
Calculate water demand, storage capacity, and pumping requirements for domestic, flushing, and firefighting systems.
Develop hydraulic calculations for water supply, drainage, and firefighting networks using software tools or equivalent (e.g., Pipe Flow Expert, EPANET, Elite Fire, or manual methods).
Design and size pipes, pumps, tanks, valves, sprinklers, hydrants, hose reels, and other PHE/firefighting components.
2. Drawings & DocumentationPrepare design drawings, schematics, and layouts for water supply, drainage, stormwater, and firefighting systems using AutoCAD/Revit.
Develop BOQ (Bill of Quantities), technical specifications, and tender documents.
Review and approve shop drawings, as-built drawings, and material submittals from contractors for compliance with design intent.
Maintain up-to-date design documentation and ensure consistency across all project deliverables.
3. CoordinationCoordinate with architectural, structural, electrical, HVAC, and landscape teams to ensure integrated design solutions.
Attend design coordination meetings with clients, consultants, and contractors.
Provide technical support during construction, including site inspections and response to RFIs (Request for Information).
Interface with local authorities (e.g., DCD, DEWA, Municipality) for design submissions and approval processes.
4. Compliance & Quality ControlEnsure design compliance with statutory regulations, environmental guidelines, and client requirements.
Adhere to relevant codes such as:
oIS/NBC for plumbing
oNFPA, NBC Part 4, and local fire codes for firefighting
oLEED/ESTIDAMA or green building requirements for sustainability
Conduct value engineering to optimize design cost without compromising performance or safety.
Implement quality assurance and control procedures for design deliverables.
5. Construction Support & SupervisionProvide design clarifications and technical support during installation and testing.
Conduct or witness hydrostatic tests, flow tests, and system commissioning for plumbing and firefighting systems.
Inspect site installations to ensure compliance with approved drawings and specifications.
Prepare inspection reports, snag lists, and as-built documentation.
6. Project & Team ManagementManage project timelines, deliverables, and coordination within the design team.
Supervise junior engineers and CAD/Revit technicians for model and drawing production.
Prepare design progress reports and update project tracking documentation.
Support tender evaluation and assist in contractor selection.
7. Health, Safety & SustainabilityIncorporate health and safety considerations in system design (backflow prevention, water quality, fire protection, etc.).
Promote sustainable design practices such as greywater recycling, rainwater harvesting, and water-efficient fixtures.
Ensure designs contribute to fire safety, occupant comfort, and building resilience.
8. Tools & Software Proficiency (Preferred)AutoCAD / Revit MEP
Elite Fire / HASS / EPANET / Pipe Flow Expert
Civil-3D, Infra works, SWMM or similar tools
Excel-based hydraulic calculations
