Job Purpose
- Maintain consistent communication with your managers by providing daily or weekly updates in the prescribed reporting format. Conduct one‑on‑one discussions as needed for training support, troubleshooting, and ensuring smooth functioning of peer review websites for each assigned journal.
- Supervise a team of 5–7 members, overseeing the end‑to‑end peer review process for Sage journals—from manuscript submission to exporting files to Sage Production—using Sage Track, STS, and Sage's online peer review systems.
- Demonstrate strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to handle challenging situations with maturity, professionalism, and calmness.
- Build and maintain high‑quality communication and strong working relationships with journal editors, associate editors (where applicable), authors, reviewers, and other Sage staff.
Key Accountabilities
The scope of work includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- Manage and maintain the administrative workflow for designated Sage journals through Sage Track sites.
- Maintain effective professional relationships and high‑quality communication with journal editors, authors, reviewers, and Sage staff across global locations.
- Collaborate with colleagues across Sage US and Sage UK offices—including editorial, marketing, production, and other functions—to maximize the effective use of Sage Track sites and contribute to the growth and progression of assigned journals.
- Conduct video/audio conference calls with US and UK colleagues as required, including after standard office hours.
- Maintain strong editorial knowledge and system proficiency.
- Support and uphold the organization's hybrid work model.
Supervisor Responsibilities
JOB FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise 5–7 Senior/Peer Review Associates, Senior Project Editors, and Editorial Assistants, ensuring workload distribution aligns with the work allocation plan.
- Effectively guide and motivate the team to ensure adherence to peer review responsibilities and quality standards.
- Manage professional relationships with team members and provide leadership aligned with organizational expectations.
- Periodically evaluate the efficiency of processes and recommend corrective actions when necessary.
- Support PRAs in identifying problem areas or improvement opportunities in their journals and oversee strategic action plans to reduce peer review turnaround times.
- Ensure PRAs escalate problematic journals to Publishing Editors promptly and effectively.
- Identify and report workflow inconsistencies or unusual tasks—especially for newly transitioned journals—to the Manager, Peer Review.
- Assess existing reports periodically and recommend new formats where required to improve relevance and eliminate redundancies.
- Ensure all process documentation is complete, updated, and accessible on the server; communicate updates to Reporting Managers.
- Ensure all training documents remain complete, updated, and available on the server, and notify Reporting Managers of any revisions.
- Escalate process-related or HR concerns to Reporting Managers in a timely manner.
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Required Skills & Competencies
- Hands-on experience working with peer review systems (mandatory).
- Minimum Bachelor's degree or equivalent in business or a related field.
- 2–3 years of leadership experience in management or supervisory roles.
- Excellent verbal and written business communication skills in English.
- Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, including relationship building, coaching, and employee development.
- Comprehensive understanding of peer review functions and publishing workflows (mandatory).
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to adhere to and support the hybrid work model.
