Job Title: Research Mentor (STEM)
Location: Remote
Employment Type: Part-Time
Company Website: www.letsunbound.com
Role Overview
We are looking for intellectually driven researchers to guide high school students through first-principles, research-style thinking across STEM domains.
This is not a tutoring role. Mentors work closely with students to formulate meaningful research questions, build strong conceptual foundations, and develop structured, publication-style outputs.
The role is best suited for individuals who enjoy breaking down complex ideas, exploring open-ended problems, and shaping how others think.
What You'll Do
Guide students from curiosity → question → framework → execution
Help students identify and refine non-trivial, feasible research questions
Translate advanced concepts into clear, first-principles understanding
Design simplified but rigorous models and analytical frameworks
Support literature exploration and development of conceptual clarity
Provide detailed feedback on reasoning, structure, and written work
Encourage independent thinking rather than template-driven approaches
Maintain consistent progress through structured milestones and check-ins
Who This Is For
We are particularly interested in candidates from:
Physics (theoretical / applied)
Mathematics (pure / applied)
Computer Science (algorithms, systems, AI/ML)
Data Science / Artificial Intelligence
Chemistry (physical / computational)
Candidates from adjacent quantitative or interdisciplinary fields are also encouraged to apply.
Required Qualifications
Current or completed PhD from IITs/IISc/QS Rank 500 Foreign Universities
US/UK PhD/postdoc experience is strongly preferred
Strong foundation in analytical thinking and problem-solving
Demonstrated experience in academic research and/or publications
Ability to explain complex concepts with clarity and precision
High ownership, reliability, and attention to detail
We don't accept candidates with Masters degrees who are not currently enrolled in a PhD program.
Preferred Experience
Prior mentoring, teaching, or supervision of students
Experience guiding open-ended or exploratory projects
Strong academic writing and editorial ability
Comfort working across disciplinary boundaries
What Sets This Role Apart
Focus on research-style thinking, not curriculum delivery
Opportunity to shape how students approach open-ended problems
High degree of intellectual autonomy in guiding projects
Work with motivated, high-ability students in a structured environment
Key Responsibilities
Research Guidance & Project Development
Work 1-on-1 with students to identify and refine research questions, develop frameworks, and guide them through structured exploration of their topic.
Conceptual Mentorship
Build strong foundational understanding by breaking down complex ideas into accessible but rigorous components.
Writing & Output Development
Support students in organizing and articulating their ideas into clear, well-structured research papers.
Progress Tracking & Accountability
Ensure steady progress through regular sessions, feedback loops, and milestone-based planning.
Additional Notes
This role requires a balance of intellectual depth, clarity of thought, and mentorship ability. The strongest candidates will be those who can combine rigorous thinking with the ability to guide students through uncertainty and open-ended exploration.
