Role Objective
The PD Merchandiser will manage end-to-end product development execution from design handover to sample approvals and bulk readiness. The role ensures that styles are developed on time, within cost, and as per quality standards, while maintaining strong coordination between design, sourcing, vendors, and production teams.
This role is critical in converting design concepts into production-ready products with minimal delays or rework.
Key Responsibilities
1. Product Development & Sampling
Coordinate end-to-end sample development from design brief to final approval.
Ensure timely development of proto, fit, size set, and PP samples.
Track and close sample comments and approvals within defined timelines.
Ensure styles are bulk-ready as per development calendar.
2. Costing & Commercial Alignment
Prepare and verify accurate cost sheets during development stage.
Work with sourcing and vendors to achieve target costing.
Ensure cost closures before bulk commitment.
Flag cost risks early to avoid margin impact.
3. Fabric, Trims & RM Coordination
Coordinate with sourcing for fabric and trim development, approvals, and testing.
Ensure timely RM availability aligned with development and production plans.
Track lab dips, strike-offs, and approvals.
Prevent delays caused by missing or delayed RM inputs.
4. Vendor & Cross-Functional Coordination
Act as the key link between design, sourcing, vendors, and production teams.
Share clear tech packs, BOMs, and development inputs with vendors.
Resolve vendor queries promptly to avoid development delays.
Ensure smooth handover from development to production merchandising.
5. Quality & Fit Control
Ensure all samples meet design intent, fit standards, and quality benchmarks.
Coordinate fit sessions and incorporate feedback accurately.
Ensure no quality compromises during development stage.
6. Timeline, MIS & Process Discipline
Maintain development trackers and MIS.
Monitor adherence to development timelines and escalate risks early.
Ensure zero last-minute surprises during production handover.
Follow SOPs and documentation discipline throughout the PD process.
Key Skills & Competencies
Strong understanding of product development, textiles, and garment construction.
Hands-on experience in fashion or apparel merchandising.
Good knowledge of fabrics, trims, and costing.
Strong coordination, follow-up, and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple styles and timelines simultaneously.
Proficiency in Excel / Google Sheets and merchandising trackers.
Qualifications & Experience
Degree or Diploma in Fashion Design / Apparel / Textiles / Merchandising.
24 years of experience in PD merchandising or apparel development.
Experience with D2C, fashion, or lifestyle brands preferred.
