Payments Domain Expert (Technical & Functional)

Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Payments Domain Expert with deep functional knowledge and strong technical acumen to lead and support digital payment initiatives. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with JCard, JPass, and other smart card-based fare and transaction systems, along with a solid understanding of payment processing, compliance, and integration technologies.

Key Responsibilities

- Knowledge of card issuing, authorization, risks, fraud, settlement flows

- Lead the design and implementation of payment processing systems across card, wallet, and account-based platforms.

- Provide domain expertise on JCard, JPass, BMM and other smart card-based fare collection systems.

- Define and document payment lifecycle processes: authorization, clearing, settlement, chargebacks, and reconciliation.

- Collaborate with product, engineering, and compliance teams to ensure PCI DSS, AML, KYC, and GDPR compliance.

- Design and review API specifications for payment orchestration and real-time transaction processing.

- Analyze and optimize interchange fees, merchant onboarding, and dispute resolution workflows.

- Ensure seamless integration with POS systems, digital wallets, and BNPL platforms.

- Translate complex payment concepts such as 3DS, tokenization, chargebacks, disputes, BIN management, SCA, PCI into actionable guidance.

Technical Skills

- Experience with payment APIs, webhooks, and event-driven systems.

- Familiarity with risk and compliance frameworks (PCI DSS, SCA, AML/KYC,3DS2).

- Ability to analyze large datasets to identify patterns in declines, fraud, or payment performance.

- Comfortable working with SQL, dashboards (Looker, Snowflake), and monitoring tools (Datadog, Grafana).

Functional Expertise

- Deep understanding of payment ecosystems, including acquiring/issuing banks, card schemes, and merchant networks.

- Hands-on experience with JCard/JPass fare systems, including tap-in/tap-out, fare capping, and account-based ticketing.

- Familiarity with digital wallet ecosystems, tokenization, and fraud detection mechanisms.

- Strong grasp of regulatory frameworks and risk mitigation in payments.

Preferred Qualifications

- 10+ years in the payment's domain with both technical and functional exposure.

- Experience in transit payments, smart mobility, or fare collection systems.

- Certifications in PCI DSS, AWS, or payment systems (e.g., NACHA, SWIFT).

- Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills
