Description

The ideal candidate will be responsible for collecting blood and other clinical specimens from patients in a safe, accurate, and professional manner while ensuring patient comfort and adherence to hospital and laboratory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection for patients of all age groups.
  • Correctly identify patients and label specimens according to hospital and laboratory protocols.
  • Collect, handle, store, and transport specimens in compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Ensure infection control practices, including proper use of PPE and adherence to biosafety guidelines.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the phlebotomy area and equipment.
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for sample collection and documentation.
  • Accurately enter patient and specimen data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
  • Assist pathologists and laboratory technologists as required.
  • Manage difficult venous access cases with care and professionalism.
  • Respond to emergency and stat sample collection requests.
  • Educate patients on sample collection procedures and address their concerns.
  • Dispose of biomedical waste as per hospital and regulatory guidelines.
  • Participate in internal audits, quality improvement initiatives, and training programs.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Certificate in Phlebotomy, Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT), or equivalent qualification.
  • Valid certification or registration as a Phlebotomist (where applicable).
  • Minimum 12 years of experience as a phlebotomist in a hospital or diagnostic laboratory (freshers may be considered).
  • Good knowledge of laboratory safety standards, infection control, and biomedical waste management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays if required.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Compassionate approach towards patient care.
