Description
The ideal candidate will be responsible for collecting blood and other clinical specimens from patients in a safe, accurate, and professional manner while ensuring patient comfort and adherence to hospital and laboratory standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection for patients of all age groups.
- Correctly identify patients and label specimens according to hospital and laboratory protocols.
- Collect, handle, store, and transport specimens in compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Ensure infection control practices, including proper use of PPE and adherence to biosafety guidelines.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the phlebotomy area and equipment.
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for sample collection and documentation.
- Accurately enter patient and specimen data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
- Assist pathologists and laboratory technologists as required.
- Manage difficult venous access cases with care and professionalism.
- Respond to emergency and stat sample collection requests.
- Educate patients on sample collection procedures and address their concerns.
- Dispose of biomedical waste as per hospital and regulatory guidelines.
- Participate in internal audits, quality improvement initiatives, and training programs.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Certificate in Phlebotomy, Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT), or equivalent qualification.
- Valid certification or registration as a Phlebotomist (where applicable).
- Minimum 12 years of experience as a phlebotomist in a hospital or diagnostic laboratory (freshers may be considered).
- Good knowledge of laboratory safety standards, infection control, and biomedical waste management.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays if required.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Compassionate approach towards patient care.
