Job Description

Paper Technologist R&D

Location: Pune

Function: Research and Development

Reports to: Head of Technology
About Zerocircle

Zerocircle builds materials for everyday packaging applications using natural compounds and water based chemistry. We work on paper and fibre based systems where performance matters as much as intent. Our focus is to design materials that work on existing converting and packaging lines while reducing what remains after use.

About the role

We are looking for a Paper Technologist to strengthen our R&D team. This role is hands on and material focused. You will work on paper and fibre based substrates and help translate lab work into pilot and production scale trials. The role requires a strong understanding of paper structure and how fibre level decisions influence bulk properties and performance in real packaging applications.

What you will do
  • Develop and optimise paper and fibre based substrates for food and packaging applications
  • Work closely with coating and formulation teams to integrate functional layers onto paper
  • Understand and apply structure property relationships in paper including fibre selection, refining, bonding, porosity, and surface energy
  • Design experiments to improve strength, barrier performance, printability, and runnability
  • Support pilot trials on paper machines and downstream converting equipment
  • Evaluate raw material variability and its impact on paper performance
  • Conduct material testing related to GSM, thickness, Cobb, tensile, burst, tear, stiffness, and moisture response
What we are looking for
  • Degree or Master's in Paper Technology, Pulp and Paper Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field
  • Hands on experience with paper making, paper testing, or paper product development
  • Strong understanding of fibre based materials and paper structure
  • Comfort working in labs, pilot facilities, and manufacturing environments
  • Ability to collaborate with formulation, process, and manufacturing teams

Qualifications

  • Strong skills in Research, Material Analysis, and Process Optimization
  • Experience in Paper Processing, Testing Techniques, and Quality Control
  • Ability to innovate and improve bio-material or paper production methodologies
  • Excellent problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Paper Technology, Material Science, or a related field
  • Experience in sustainable materials or bio-based product development is highly desirable
