Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) to support Oracle databases hosted and managed by Oracle within Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). In this role, you will work closely with application teams and Oracle support to ensure database availability, performance monitoring, issue resolution, and operational support.
Since the databases are managed by Oracle, the DBA will focus on database monitoring, troubleshooting, performance analysis, and coordination with Oracle cloud support teams rather than performing core infrastructure-level administration.
Key Responsibilities
Database Monitoring & Operations
- Monitor Oracle databases hosted in OCI for availability, performance, and capacity.
- Use OCI monitoring tools and enterprise monitoring solutions to track database health.
- Investigate and resolve database alerts, incidents, and operational issues.
- Perform routine operational checks and maintain database uptime.
Incident & Problem Management
- Troubleshoot database performance and connectivity issues.
- Coordinate with Oracle OCI managed services support team for database-level issues.
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring database incidents.
- Participate in incident management and escalation procedures.
Performance Monitoring & Optimization
- Analyze database performance using AWR, ASH, ADDM reports.
- Identify slow SQL queries and work with development teams for optimization.
- Monitor resource usage including CPU, memory, I/O, and storage.
Backup, Recovery & Maintenance
- Validate backup and recovery processes managed by Oracle.
- Support restore requests and coordinate with Oracle support when required.
- Ensure backup compliance and retention policies are met.
Change Management
- Support database changes including schema updates, configuration changes, and application releases.
- Participate in deployment activities and ensure database readiness for application releases.
- Maintain proper documentation for changes and operational procedures.
Security & Compliance
- Implement and monitor database access controls.
- Ensure adherence to organizational security and compliance policies.
- Monitor audit logs and database activity where applicable.
Collaboration
- Work closely with application teams, cloud engineers, and Oracle support teams.
- Support troubleshooting across application, middleware, and database layers.
- Participate in operational reviews and service improvement initiatives.
Required Skills
Technical Skills
- Strong experience with Oracle Database (11g / 12c / 19c or higher).
- Experience supporting Oracle databases in cloud environments (OCI preferred).
- Knowledge of:
- SQL and PL/SQL
- AWR / ASH / ADDM reports
- RMAN concepts
- Data Pump
- Experience monitoring database performance and troubleshooting issues.
OCI Knowledge
- Familiarity with:
- Oracle Cloud Infrastructure
- Autonomous Database / DB Systems
- OCI Monitoring & Logging
- OCI console and CLI
Tools
Experience with monitoring tools such as:
- OEM (Oracle Enterprise Manager)
- Datadog / AppDynamics / Dynatrace (optional but beneficial)
- Ticketing systems (ServiceNow, Jira)
