Job Description

Introduction

Our OpenShift on Z team is responsible for enhancing and maintaining the key components of the stack Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform Architecture - OpenShift Container Platform (developer services), OpenShift Kubernetes Engine (Cluster services). We tightly collaborate with the Redhat and international development teams of IBM (e.g. hardware and firmware development), the global maintainers of Open-Source communities

Your Role And Responsibilities

  • Design and provision Red Hat OpenShift infrastructure based on cloudnative architecture and deployment models.
  • Build and administer OpenShift Container Platform clusters, including compute, storage, networking, and application monitoring.
  • Implement DevOps toolchains and CI/CD workflows on OpenShift.
  • Develop and deploy Ansible playbooks for automation, configuration management, and environment provisioning.
  • Perform Infrastructure as Code (IaC)based provisioning and create sandbox environments.
  • Manage hybrid cloud environments with focus on HA/DR, security, performance, and SLA adherence.
  • Monitor cluster and service health using OpenShift and Kubernetes observability tools.
  • Apply expertise in Kubernetes, Docker, and CRIO for workload orchestration and troubleshooting.
  • Hold Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration certification.

Required Technical And Professional Expertise

  • 14-18 years of experience in software performance engineering, with a strong track record of optimizing enterprise-grade platforms.
  • Deep understanding of container fundamentals and Kubernetes/OpenShift architecture, including networking, storage, and orchestration layers.
  • Solid knowledge of Hypervisor & Virtualization concepts, including performance implications and resource allocation strategies.
  • Strong grasp of System Architecture principles and ability to design for scalability, resiliency, and efficiency.
  • Proficient in Operating System concepts (Linux preferred), including process scheduling, memory management, and I/O optimization.
  • Hands-on experience with problem determination, root cause analysis, and debugging in Kubernetes/OpenShift environments, leveraging logs, metrics, and tracing tools.
  • Ability to collaborate with Red Hat teams to resolve dependencies, drive synergy, and accelerate joint innovation.
  • Proven experience in driving customer adoption of container platforms through production-grade use cases, workshops, and enablement programs.
  • Strong analytical skills for performance tuning, capacity planning, and resource footprint optimization on enterprise platforms
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills to articulate technical strategies and influence cross-functional teams.

Preferred Technical And Professional Experience

Knowledge of programming languages like Go, Ruby, Python, Java, Node.js, and server-side

Experience with Open Source Projects: Contribution to open source software, such as kubernetes, Kata, Operators, and influencing the community to support IBM needs, is desirable.

Understanding of Container Applications: Familiarity with container applications using Kubernetes and content delivery on platforms such as IBM Cloud, PowerVS, AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud is advantageous.
