Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Data Modeling & Design

  • Design, develop, and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models for insurance applications and systems (claims, policy, underwriting, billing, reinsurance, etc.).
  • Build and maintain enterprise data models aligned with insurance industry standards (e.g., ACORD).
  • Define data dictionaries, metadata, and relationships to support data governance and consistency.
  • Ensure data models are optimized for both transactional (OLTP) and analytical (OLAP) systems.

Insurance Domain Expertise

  • Translate business requirements from claims, policy administration, underwriting, actuarial, and finance teams into scalable data solutions.
  • Support regulatory and compliance reporting requirements (e.g., IRDAI, IFRS, Solvency II).
  • Ensure models capture core insurance processes such as claims intake, adjudication, settlement, renewals, endorsements, and cancellations.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Partner with business analysts, data architects, and developers to deliver insurance-specific data solutions.
  • Work with data warehouse, ETL, and BI teams to ensure seamless integration of insurance data.
  • Collaborate with actuaries, claims specialists, and policy teams to validate data definitions and usage.

Governance & Standards

  • Enforce data governance and quality standards across insurance systems.
  • Document business rules, lineage, and data definitions for core insurance entities.
  • Conduct impact analysis for changes in insurance processes and data flows.

Qualifications

Experience

  • 4+ years of experience as a Data Modeler or Data Architect, preferably in the insurance industry.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Erwin Data Modeler (or equivalent data modeling tools).
  • Proven expertise in modeling insurance data entities such as Policy, Customer, Premiums, Claims, Payments, Underwriting, Reinsurance, and Agents/Brokers.
  • Experience working with data warehouses, data lakes, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of insurance domain data flows and regulatory needs.
  • Expertise in conceptual, logical, and physical modeling.
  • Proficiency in SQL for data analysis and validation.
  • Familiarity with insurance standards (e.g., ACORD, ISO) is a plus.
  • Understanding of data governance, metadata management, and lineage tracking.

Education

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Data Management, or a related field.

Preferred Certifications (not Mandatory)

  • Erwin Data Modeler Certification.
  • Insurance certifications (e.g., AINS, CPCU) are highly desirable.
  • Data management certifications (e.g., CDMP).
