About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Backend Engineer to join our dynamic team at Applicantz. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and maintaining robust backend services and APIs that power our customer-facing applications. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in Node.js, TypeScript, and distributed systems, with a deep understanding of microservices architecture and cloud-native development on AWS. You will take ownership of critical backend components, ensuring high availability, performance, security, and scalability. Collaboration with cross-functional teams, including product managers, QA engineers, and frontend developers, will be essential to deliver high-quality solutions that meet business objectives.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 7-9 years of overall software engineering experience, with at least 5 years dedicated to backend development. Proficiency in Node.js, TypeScript, and JavaScript is essential, along with a strong understanding of RESTful API development, microservices, and distributed systems. Candidates should have solid knowledge of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented programming, and software architecture principles. Experience working with AWS services such as DynamoDB, ECS, Lambda, S3, SQS, and API Gateway is required. Familiarity with automated testing frameworks like Jest or Mocha, containerization using Docker, and CI/CD pipelines is also necessary. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills are vital for success in this role.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and RESTful APIs using Node.js and TypeScript, ensuring they are reliable, secure, and highly available. Build and optimize distributed microservice-based applications, focusing on performance, security, and maintainability. Develop efficient data models and access patterns utilizing Amazon DynamoDB, considering partition keys, secondary indexes, and query optimization. Implement cloud-native, event-driven solutions leveraging AWS services such as ECS, Lambda, S3, SQS, and API Gateway to facilitate asynchronous workflows and messaging architectures.

Define clear service boundaries, API contracts, and data flows, collaborating closely with product teams to align technical solutions with business needs. Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal user experience. Address performance bottlenecks, scalability challenges, and security vulnerabilities proactively. Participate in architecture discussions, technical design reviews, and code reviews to uphold engineering standards and best practices.

Develop comprehensive automated tests at unit, integration, and service levels to ensure code quality and reliability. Monitor production applications using logs, metrics, traces, dashboards, and alerts, enabling proactive incident management. Support and enhance CI/CD pipelines, containerization processes, and deployment automation to streamline release cycles. Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams in an Agile/Scrum environment, taking end-to-end ownership of backend features from conception through deployment and support. Mentor junior engineers, sharing knowledge and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.
