Job Summary
The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for supporting mechanical operations and maintenance activities across Steel Melt Shop (SMS), Continuous Casting Machine (CCM), and Rolling Mill departments. The role involves ensuring equipment reliability, reducing downtime, and improving overall plant performance through effective mechanical practices.
Key Responsibilities
Steel Melt Shop (SMS)
- Handle mechanical maintenance of furnaces, ladles, and associated systems.
- Ensure smooth functioning of equipment through preventive and breakdown maintenance.
- Identify mechanical issues and support timely corrective actions. Rolling Mill:
- Manage mechanical operations related to rolling mill machinery.
- Improve equipment efficiency and minimize production interruptions.
- Attend and resolve mechanical breakdowns during rolling operations.
Continuous Casting Machine (CCM)
- Maintain mechanical systems of CCM for uninterrupted casting operations.
- Assist in routine inspections, alignment, and replacement of mechanical parts.
- Support shutdown maintenance and reliability improvement activities.
Quality
- Work closely with the quality team to ensure mechanical performance meets quality requirements.
- Support process improvements to enhance product consistency.
- Analyze mechanical failures and help implement corrective measures.
Stores & Purchase
- Coordinate with stores and purchase teams for timely availability of mechanical spares.
- Assist in tracking spare parts usage and inventory requirements.
- Support vendor coordination for mechanical components when required.
Qualifications
- BE / BTech / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience in steel plant operations is an added advantage (not mandatory).
- Good understanding of mechanical equipment used in SMS, CCM, and Rolling Mill.
- Ability to interpret drawings and handle mechanical troubleshooting.
- Strong analytical, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to work in an industrial and fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Postgraduate qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
- Exposure to automation or modern steel plant machinery.
- Awareness of safety practices and industrial standards.
