Job Role: Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Mumbai

Job Category: Project Research Staff

About The Project:

The project funded by the Government focuses on developing and demonstrating drone and allied technologies. The project will address various applications through the utilization of advanced technologies and critical infrastructure. Strong industry connections and collaborations will be fostered to solve pertinent challenges and drive technological advancements. Additionally, comprehensive drone training and awareness programs will be provided to ensure proficiency and understanding among people.

Institute: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, Mumbai

Qualification and Key Skills Required:

  • PhD with relevant experience OR
  • MTech / ME or equivalent degree with relevant experience OR
  • BTech / BE or equivalent degree with relevant experience
  • Experience in machine design, manufacturing processes and assembly processes.
  • Proficiency in CAD with SolidWorks/NX.
  • Experience in designing, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting pneumatic and hydraulic systems is required.
  • Basic understanding of electronics and sensor integration.
  • Understanding of material science.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects

Job Profile:

  • Design and develop thrust stands and PID test rig for testing drone motors and propulsion systems.
  • Perform mechanical design calculations for load, vibration, torque, and safety factors.
  • Create detailed 2D drawings and 3D CAD models as per industrial standards.
  • Select appropriate materials, sensors (load cells), bearings, fasteners, and structural components.
  • Assemble thrust stands and ensure proper mechanical alignment and stability.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues and optimize designs for accuracy and durability.
  • Oversee fabrication, assembly, and testing of mechanical components and sub-systems.
  • Provide technical documentation, including design specifications, manufacturing guidelines and reports.
  • Collaborate with electronics, software, and R&D teams.
  • Any other work assigned as per requirement.
