Managing Director (Specialist Contractor firm, Data Center Construction)

About the Role
An established engineering and project delivery organization is seeking a Managing Director to lead overall business performance, strategic growth, project execution, and operational excellence across the region. This role will be responsible for driving commercial success, strengthening client relationships, overseeing large-scale project delivery, and building a high-performing organization.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Business Development
- Define and execute business strategies to support growth, profitability, and long-term market positioning.
- Identify new business opportunities, market trends, and strategic partnerships to expand the company's presence.
- Drive organizational performance and ensure alignment between business objectives and operational execution.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, investors, and key industry stakeholders.
- Lead business development initiatives, bid strategies, contract negotiations, and key account management activities.
- Strengthen the company's market presence and secure new project opportunities across target sectors.
Operations & Project Delivery
- Provide executive oversight across multiple projects, ensuring successful delivery in line with safety, quality, budget, and schedule objectives.
- Monitor project performance, resource utilization, risk exposure, and operational efficiency.
- Support project teams in resolving commercial, technical, and operational challenges.
Financial & Commercial Management
- Maintain overall accountability for business performance, including revenue growth, profitability, forecasting, and financial planning.
- Review commercial performance, project margins, budgets, and investment decisions.
- Oversee risk management, contract administration, and governance frameworks to protect business interests.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Building Services, Business Management, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 15 years of experience within engineering, construction, infrastructure, industrial, or project-based environments.
- Proven track record in a senior leadership, business unit leadership, director, or executive management role.
- Strong commercial acumen with experience managing business performance, profitability, and growth.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and complex stakeholder environments.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, leadership, and relationship management skills.
Preferred Experience
- Experience leading engineering, construction, infrastructure, mission-critical, or industrial organizations.
- Strong understanding of project delivery, commercial management, operational governance, and business strategy.
- Proven success in driving organizational growth, improving business performance, and managing large-scale projects.
- Established network within the engineering, construction, or infrastructure sectors would be advantageous.
