Project Director (Data Center Construction)

About the Opportunity

A leading engineering and project delivery organization is seeking an experienced Project Director to lead the execution of complex mission-critical, industrial, and large-scale infrastructure projects. This individual will provide strategic leadership across multiple projects, ensuring successful delivery while driving operational excellence, client satisfaction, commercial performance, and team development.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership and governance across multiple engineering and construction projects, ensuring successful delivery from project award through commissioning, handover, and close-out.
• Develop and implement project execution strategies, ensuring alignment with business objectives, contractual commitments, safety requirements, quality standards, budget targets, and project schedules.
• Oversee project performance, resource allocation, financial management, procurement activities, risk mitigation, and operational delivery to achieve key project milestones and profitability objectives.
• Lead and mentor Project Managers and project teams, fostering a high-performance culture focused on accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional development.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, suppliers, and key stakeholders, serving as a senior point of contact for project-related matters and strategic discussions.
• Provide guidance and support on technical, operational, commercial, and contractual challenges while ensuring effective decision-making across project teams.
• Monitor project budgets, forecasts, variations, claims, and change management activities to optimize financial performance and mitigate commercial risk.
• Champion best practices in project delivery, engineering coordination, procurement, construction management, testing, commissioning, and project controls.
• Drive a strong safety-first culture across all projects, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations, company policies, client requirements, and quality management standards.
• Support business growth initiatives through client engagement, stakeholder relationship management, and identification of future project opportunities.
• Develop leadership capability within the organization through succession planning, coaching, mentoring, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Requirements

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 15 years of experience within engineering, construction, infrastructure, industrial, mission-critical, or large-scale project environments.
• Proven track record leading multiple projects and managing diverse project teams.
• Strong commercial, financial, and contractual management experience.
• Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, negotiation, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to drive project performance, business objectives, and operational excellence.
• Experience within mission-critical, industrial, infrastructure, hyperscale, or large-scale engineering projects is highly preferred.

Preferred Background

• Extensive experience overseeing complex M&E, infrastructure, mission-critical, or high-value engineering projects.
• Strong understanding of project delivery, construction methodologies, procurement, testing and commissioning, and operational readiness.
• Experience managing senior client relationships and resolving project, commercial, and operational challenges.
• Proven ability to lead large multidisciplinary teams across multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong business acumen with experience in risk management, cost control, forecasting, and project governance.
• Experience working in fast-paced project environments with stringent safety, quality, and reporting requirements.
