Job Summary:
The Head – Quality Control will be responsible for leading the entire Quality Control (QC) department at the plant. This role involves overseeing all QC operations, managing a team of engineers, inspectors, and trainees, ensuring compliance with customer and industry standards, and working closely with cross-functional teams to maintain the highest product quality in Aerospace and Defence manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Management:
- Lead the QC team comprising Assistant Managers, Inspectors, Engineers, and Trainees.
- Ensure all QC activities align with organizational goals and schedules.
- Drive performance, continuous improvement, and compliance within the QC function.
Quality Control Operations:
- Review and validate PCP, QAP, QAM, and Inspection Plans received from the Engineering department.
- Direct the team to complete QC activities for First Article Inspections (FAI) and ensure quality compliance for series production.
- Ensure QC processes adhere to Gantt chart timelines and escalate project delays when required.
- Maintain and calibrate QC infrastructure; raise indents for new or improved equipment to enhance productivity.
Documentation & Compliance:
- Study customer requirements and ensure internal documentation aligns with them.
- Oversee proper documentation and reporting of all QC activities.
- Ensure compliance with AS9100 standards and related FAI requirements.
- Maintain adherence to all organizational and industry quality standards.
Cross-Functional & External Coordination:
- Participate in CFT activities such as risk analysis, contract review, and production deviation analysis.
- Liaise with customers and suppliers for completion and approval of First Article and series production goods.
- Provide technical support during customer quotation preparation.
Technical Expertise:
- Perform detailed analysis of inspection reports to determine product conformity.
- Conduct or oversee dimensional measurements, NDT (UT, RT, FPI, MPI), functional and mechanical testing.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and ensure data-driven decision-making.
Skills and Experience:
- Minimum 10 years of experience in manufacturing of components and assemblies within Aerospace & Defence.
- Expertise in QC of mechanical hardware components and assemblies.
- Strong knowledge in at least one of the following manufacturing processes, with working understanding of others:
- Metallic Machining (CNC & Conventional), Precision Welding of Exotic Alloys, Metal Forming, Filament Winding (Composites), Press Moulding, Autoclave Moulding.
- Experience in Dimension Measurement, NDT, Functional Testing, and Mechanical Testing.
- Preferred exposure to Composites Testing, Chemical Analysis, and Environmental Testing.
- Proficiency in Engineering Drawing interpretation, 3D Models, Process Specification reading, and metrology principles.
- Familiarity with AS9100, NADCAP, and First Article Inspection (FAI) processes.
- Experience with CMM, Height Gauge, and 3D Portable Arm measurement systems.
- Ability to analyze inspection data, interpret results, and make product quality decisions.
