Role
The Manager – Operations will be responsible for managing day-to-day plant operations, ensuring seamless coordination across production, procurement, quality, and dispatch functions. This position requires a strong understanding of manufacturing processes and a sharp focus on timely delivery, cost efficiency, and team management. The role is designed for a mid-career professional ready to take complete ownership of operations and directly support the Managing Director in scaling production capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Operations & Production Management
- Lead and manage day-to-day plant operations across all product lines (corrugated, wooden, and plastic).
- Plan and execute production schedules in line with customer orders and delivery timelines.
- Monitor machine utilization, downtime, and process efficiency; implement corrective actions as needed.
Supply Chain, Inventory & Dispatch
- Coordinate with procurement and store teams to ensure timely availability of raw materials.
- Optimize inventory levels to reduce waste, stock-outs, and excess inventory.
- Oversee dispatch operations to ensure timely and accurate delivery of finished goods.
- Manage logistics coordination and transportation planning.
Customer Coordination
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customer order tracking, delivery schedules, and complaint resolution.
- Work closely with the sales and customer service teams to ensure alignment between production and customer requirements.
Process Improvement
- Implement Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, 5S, or similar practices for process optimization.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and quality enhancements through automation or process re-engineering.
Quality Assurance
- Collaborate with the QA team to ensure product quality meets customer and regulatory standards.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions for any quality issues.
Team Leadership & Workforce Management
- Lead a team of supervisors, line workers, and technicians across multiple units.
- Monitor workforce productivity and conduct regular performance reviews and training.
Maintenance & Safety
- Ensure preventive and breakdown maintenance schedules are adhered to for all machinery and utilities.
- Enforce workplace safety standards and statutory compliance (Factories Act, Pollution norms, etc.).
Reporting & Strategy
- Submit operational reports and KPIs to the Managing Director on a regular basis.
- Assist the MD in budgeting, CAPEX planning, and long-term manufacturing strategy.
Desired candidate profile
- Proven track record of managing plant operations in packaging, OEMs or Automotive Component Suppliers.
- Experience in dispatch/logistics and direct customer coordination is highly desirable.
- Strong leadership, people management, and problem-solving skills.
- Familiar with ISO standards, ERP systems, and statutory compliance related to manufacturing.
- Excellent communication, planning, and analytical abilities.
