Job Description

The Cost Accountant / Cost Analyst owns Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) analytics, builds actionable unit economics, and partners cross-functionally to optimize cost-to-serve for Cvent's platform. The role translates complex cost drivers into clear insights, improves forecast accuracy, and delivers measurable gross margin expansion.

What You'll Be Doing

Own monthly COGS analytics and close support, including accruals, reclasses, reconciliations, and executive commentary by product, region, and cloud.

Build drive-based cost models for hosting/infrastructure, payments/chargebacks, onsite delivery (labor, equipment, consumables, logistics), and trade-of-service/ad delivery tied to consumption and revenue mix.

Define and track unit economics such as cost per customer onboarding, cost per attendee check-in, cost per 1,000 streaming minutes, merchant fee per $ GMV, and cost per venue lead; publish automated dashboards and alerts.

Create margin bridges and a cost taxonomy that clearly attribute variances to price, mix, volume, and efficiency; convert insights into concrete actions and savings roadmaps.

Partner with FP&A, Accounting, Client Services, IT/Infra, Product, and Procurement to forecast COGS, negotiate cost levers, and sequence savings initiatives without degrading SLAs.

Establish benchmarks and rate cards; identify cost outliers and structural opportunities (architecture, vendor terms, staffing models, routing, kit mix) and track actions through to realized savings.

What You Need For The Role:

810 years in cost accounting, cost analysis, or operations finance within SaaS, payments, marketplaces, or tech-enabled services.

Strong cost accounting fundamentals: activity-based costing, variance analysis, accruals/reserves, capitalization vs expense principles, and practical awareness of revenue recognition interactions.

Advanced modeling in Excel and practical SQL for data extraction, joins, and reconciliation; ability to build and automate BI dashboards (e.g., Sigma/Tableau/Power BI).

Demonstrated experience building unit economics frameworks and delivering tangible cost savings across hosting, payments, onsite, or marketplace delivery contexts.

Excellent executive communication and stakeholder management; proven track record converting analysis into decisions and measurable results.

Bachelor's in accounting, Finance, Economics, or Engineering; Master's preferred. CMA or CPA strongly preferred.
