Job Description

Purpose/Objective

The Safety Lead - Copper is responsible for overseeing and enhancing all aspects of safety protocols within the Metal Copper industry operations. This role demands meticulous planning, execution, and continuous improvement of safety measures, aiming to uphold the highest standards of occupational health and safety. The Safety Lead - Copper will develop and enforce safety procedures, manage safety equipment and personnel, and ensure compliance with all regulatory and internal standards.

Key Responsibilities of Role

Planning and Execution:

  • Develop and implement safety protocols and emergency response strategies, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Lead the preparation and standardization of safety procedures across all operations.
  • Lead risk assessments and Hazard and Operability Studies (Hazop) to identify potential operational hazards.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents, reporting findings and recommending improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate safety considerations into all aspects of operations.

Process Optimization and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Continuously assess and enhance safety procedures to optimize operational safety and efficiency.
  • Implement innovations in safety practices to minimize risks and improve response times.
  • Organize and conduct safety drills and emergency preparedness sessions to ensure readiness for any situation.
  • Engage in community meetings and promote safety awareness within the local community and among stakeholders.
  • Conduct internal and external audits to ensure compliance with safety standards.

Quality Assurance and Control:

  • Oversee quality control of all safety measures, ensuring they meet internal and regulatory standards.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to uphold safety standards consistently.
  • Perform gap analyses to identify discrepancies between current practices and desired safety outcomes.
  • Provide expert inputs to the operations team to enhance safety performance and operational efficiency.

Equipment Monitoring and Troubleshooting:

  • Manage the inventory and maintenance of safety-related equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with safety equipment to prevent operational disruptions.

HSE and Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental laws, including factory and petroleum licenses.
  • Keep abreast of and implement new compliance requirements to maintain legal and corporate standards.

Cost Management and Budgeting:

  • Develop and manage the safety budget, ensuring efficient use of resources and cost-effectiveness.
  • Monitor and report on safety-related expenses to optimize spending and resource allocation.

Resource and Workforce Management:

  • Lead, manage, and develop the safety team, promoting a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Plan and execute training programs to enhance team capabilities in safety operations.

Reporting and Data Analytics:

  • Utilize Management Information Systems (MIS) for data management and reporting to track safety metrics and performance.
  • Analyze safety data to identify trends and areas for improvement, reporting findings to senior management.

Digitization and Tech Adoption:

  • Advocate for the adoption of new technologies to enhance safety measures and operational efficiency.
  • Implement digital tools for better tracking, reporting, and analysis of safety data.

Qualifications and Experience

Educational Qualification:

  • Bachelor's degree (from recognized institutes) in Fire Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Advanced certifications in fire safety management, industrial safety, and emergency response are highly desirable or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)

Work Experience (Range of years):

  • 10-15 years of progressive experience in fire safety management in the Metal Copper industry.
