Job Description

Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Manager

To drive techno-commercial evaluation, bid participation, and route-to-market development for BESS and hybrid (Solar + Storage / Wind + Storage) projects, ensuring alignment with Azure's growth strategy, profitability targets, and evolving market opportunities.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Techno-Commercial Evaluation

  • Perform detailed techno-commercial feasibility analysis for standalone and hybrid BESS projects
  • Evaluate system sizing, configuration, and optimization based on use cases (peak shifting, ancillary services, RTC power, etc.)

2. Bid Management & Project Origination

  • Identify and track BESS, hybrid, and FDRE tender opportunities
  • Lead/support end-to-end bid preparation
  • Coordinate with internal teams for cost inputs, risk assessment, and bid approvals

3. Market & Regulatory Intelligence

  • Track policy and regulatory developments related to BESS, ancillary markets, and grid services
  • Analyse market trends, tariff benchmarks, and competitor strategies
  • Engage with stakeholders such as MNRE, CERC, SECI, CTU, state utilities and industry bodies such as IESA

4. Costing & Commercial Strategy

  • Develop and maintain cost benchmarks for BESS components (cells, PCS, EMS, EPC, etc.)
  • Work with OEMs and suppliers for techno-commercial optimization

5. Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Collaborate with Engineering, Finance, Regulatory, Legal, and Construction teams
  • Support project structuring and risk mitigation strategies
  • Provide inputs for contracting, vendor selection, and project timelines

6. Stakeholder & Vendor Management

  • Build relationships with BESS OEMs, integrators, EPC players, and consultants
  • Participate in technical discussions, negotiations, and due diligence processes

7. Reporting & Decision Support

  • Support in preparing board approval proposals and seeking investment/bidding approval process
  • Present opportunities to management with clear articulation of risks, returns, and strategic fit

Desired Experience and Skills:

  • 1. Experience6–10 years of experience in renewable energy / power sector, with at least:
  • 2–4 years in BESS, hybrid projects, or grid-scale storage
  • Experience in techno-commercial roles, bidding, or project development
  • Must have end-to-end exposure to the lifecycle of BESS projects

  • 2. Educational QualificationBachelor's degree in engineering (Electrical / Power preferred)

3. Core Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of BESS technologies, regulatory frameworks and power markets
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management
  • Ability to work in a fast-evolving environment
