Role Summary
As a Mainframe Developer (Engineering Manager track), you'll develop and enhance COBOL/CICS applications, optimize DB2 SQL performance, manage production batch jobs, and translate business requirements into technical specifications. This senior technical leadership role combines hands-on development with system analysis, testing, and production support ownership.
Development & Coding
- Develop new applications and enhance existing ones using COBOL, JCL, and CICS
- Write, debug, and optimize DB2 SQL queries (SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE)
- Implement business logic in COBOL programs with proper error handling
Performance Tuning
- Analyze and optimize DB2 SQL queries for maximum performance
- Reduce batch job runtime through JCL optimization and SQL tuning
- Implement indexing strategies and query rewrite techniques
Production Support
- Monitor batch jobs and resolve production abends (S0C4, S0C1, SB37, SD37)
- Perform root cause analysis for recurring production issues
- Implement permanent fixes and preventive measures
System Analysis & Design
- Translate business requirements into detailed technical specifications
- Conduct impact analysis for change requests across interconnected systems
- Design modular, maintainable COBOL application architecture
Testing
- Execute unit testing, integration testing, and regression testing
- Develop comprehensive test plans and validation scenarios
- Document test results and defect resolutions
