Mainframe Developer

Role Overview:

This Mainframe Developer position is responsible for developing high/low-level designs, performing build/unit testing, providing implementation support, and working with various mainframe applications across business lines. The role includes mentoring juniors and contributing to both Waterfall and Agile development methods.

Key Responsibilities:

• Translate business requirements and functional design into low-level technical design and implementation.
• Develop and maintain medium to complex programs using COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS, and CWS.
• Perform unit testing and ensure functionality meets business requirements.
• Mentor junior team members and uplift their technical capabilities.
• Provide technical consultation and support for computer application development.
• Analyze business requirements, design, and write technical specifications for new or modified solutions.
• Develop original and/or complex code and assist in preparing programming specifications.
• Lead or perform modeling, simulations, and analysis efforts for assigned projects.
• Verify program logic via test data preparation, testing, and debugging.
• Participate in overall systems testing during SDLC phases.
• Confirm migration of application code to production after releases.
• Develop documentation, including restart instructions, flow diagrams, and user guides.
• Work with mainframe utilities such as DFSORT, REXX, FileAid, Endeavor/ChangeMan, Easytrieve, etc.
• Use debugging tools like Xpediter and AbendAid for troubleshooting.
• Provide technical leadership on small to medium projects.

Essential Qualifications:

• B.E/B.Tech degree or equivalent advanced degree in a technology-oriented field.
• 7+ years of experience in programming using COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, and CICS.
• Experience with Agile/Scrum methodology; familiarity with tools like zUnit, Git, SonarQube, Checkmarx is preferred.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Proactive and able to work independently.
