Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and architect the end-to-end Looker semantic layer, including LookML best practices, modular model structure, and reusable view/explore frameworks.
  • Develop, optimize, and maintain LookML models, views, explores, and derived tables to deliver scalable, high-performance reporting solutions.
  • Inventory and catalog existing Looker assets including Looks, Dashboards, Explores, Models, and LookML components.
  • Extract and migrate the full LookML codebase - models, views, explores, derived tables, and semantic logic - into a target Looker environment.
  • Replicate Looker environment configuration including data connections, projects, folder structures, schedules, alerts, and user permissions/roles.
  • Establish and validate data connections between Looker and the target cloud data platform to ensure reporting continuity.
  • Migrate all reporting assets (dashboards, Looks, Explores, scheduled reports) ensuring functional parity with the source environment.
  • Validate Looker content: query execution, dashboard rendering, and scheduled report delivery.
  • Perform user access and role-based permission alignment for target environment stakeholders.
  • Execute smoke testing and validation across key dashboards and reports to confirm operational readiness.
  • Support production cutover and transition of Looker workloads to the target environment.
  • Produce migration documentation and knowledge transfer materials for the target environment.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years of hands-on Looker development and architecture experience.
  • Deep expertise in LookML - models, views, explores, derived tables, and persistent derived tables (PDTs).
  • Proven experience migrating or replicating Looker environments (cloning, project migrations, or BI consolidations).
  • Strong Looker Admin experience: connections, user roles, groups, content access controls, folder management.
  • Experience integrating Looker with cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, or Azure Synapse.
  • Ability to perform end-to-end functional validation and smoke testing of Looker dashboards and reports.
  • Familiarity with Looker API and Git-based LookML version control workflows.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills; ability to produce clear operational runbooks.
