Job Description: Line Underwriter – Livestock - Veterinary Doctor – General Insurance Company
Position Overview
The Veterinary Doctor will provide professional expertise in assessing, evaluating, and managing insurance claims related to animals (livestock, pets, and other insured animals). The role involves supporting underwriting, claims, and product development teams with veterinary knowledge to ensure accurate risk evaluation and fair claim settlements.
Key Responsibilities
- Claims Assessment
- Examine medical records, diagnostic reports, and treatment histories of insured animals.
- Verify authenticity of veterinary claims and assess the validity of treatments/procedures.
- Conduct field visits when necessary to inspect livestock, pets, or farm conditions.
- Underwriting Support
- Provide veterinary insights for designing animal insurance policies (livestock, pet insurance, poultry, aquaculture).
- Assist in risk evaluation by identifying common diseases, mortality risks, and preventive measures.
- Fraud Detection
- Identify potential fraudulent claims by analyzing inconsistencies in medical records or treatment histories.
- Advise on preventive measures to reduce fraudulent activities.
- Customer & Stakeholder Interaction
- Liaise with policyholders, veterinary clinics, and hospitals to gather accurate information.
- Offer guidance to customers on preventive healthcare practices for insured animals.
- Product Development
- Collaborate with actuarial and product teams to design innovative insurance products for animals.
- Suggest coverage enhancements based on veterinary trends and emerging risks.
- Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure adherence to regulatory guidelines related to animal insurance.
- Prepare detailed veterinary reports for claims and underwriting teams.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Veterinary Science (B.V.Sc. / M.V.Sc.).
- Valid license/registration with the Veterinary Council.
- Minimum 2–5 years of clinical or field veterinary experience (insurance experience preferred).
- Strong analytical and report-writing skills.
- Knowledge of livestock management, pet healthcare, and preventive veterinary practices.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills for dealing with clients and internal teams.
