Role Overview
A DevOps/Linux engineer for a high-frequency trading (HFT) firm is a Linux-focused role responsible for designing, deploying, and maintaining high-performance infrastructure for trading systems. This role requires a strong foundation in Linux systems administration, scripting (Bash, Python), networking, and experience with cloud environments and containerization.
Responsibilities
- Manage Linux systems, including user permissions, process management, system logs, and network fundamentals.
- Manage services such as DNS, DHCP, NFS, and LDAP on Linux servers.
- Develop and maintain automation scripts (Shell, Bash, or Python) to streamline server management tasks.
- Monitor system performance, identify and resolve bottlenecks, and ensure high availability and proactive alerting for mission-critical trading systems.
- Design, deploy, and maintain high-performance and low-latency infrastructure, both in the cloud (AWS) and on-premises colocation environments.
- Security: Implement and enforce cybersecurity best practices across all systems.
- Troubleshooting: Respond to and resolve incidents in a timely manner, performing root cause analysis to implement long-term solutions.
Qualifications
- Deep knowledge of Linux systems administration, including scripting (Bash and Python are essential).
- Experience with cloud platforms, particularly AWS (IAM, EC2, VPC, CloudWatch) is advantage
- Strong understanding of networking fundamentals.
- Experience with scripting languages like Python
- Familiarity with high-frequency trading (HFT) environments and low-latency server configurations is a plus.
