About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated RHEL Engineer to join our dedicated RHEL Engineering Team in either Chennai or Pune. This role is pivotal in maintaining and enhancing the stability, security, and performance of our Red Hat Enterprise Linux infrastructure. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of Linux internals, automation, and system troubleshooting, with a proven track record of managing complex Linux environments. You will be responsible for platform engineering, OS certification, in-place upgrades, automation development, and support for container platforms such as PODMAN. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge Linux technologies, contribute to innovative solutions, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver enterprise-grade infrastructure services.
Qualifications
- 10 to 16 years of professional experience in Linux engineering, with a strong focus on Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments.
- Expertise in Linux kernel internals, system calls, SELinux, networking, storage, and troubleshooting at OS and service levels.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python and Shell scripting.
- Hands-on experience with automation tools like Ansible, including writing, debugging, and optimizing playbooks.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and version control systems such as Git, Jenkins, GitLab, or Azure DevOps.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to perform root cause analysis and regression testing.
- Self-driven with an ability to work independently, research new technologies, and propose innovative solutions.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities
- Perform baseline testing on new RHEL versions, kernels, and patches to ensure stability and compatibility.
- Certify RHEL releases, security patches, kernels, libraries, and tools prior to production deployment.
- Plan, test, and execute non-disruptive in-place OS upgrades, validating upgrade paths and automating workflows.
- Develop and maintain automation scripts and playbooks using Ansible, Shell, and Python to streamline operations and testing processes.
- Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines for continuous testing, validation, and deployment of Linux images and updates.
- Provide support for PODMAN container platform, including version validation, container lifecycle management, and integration with automation pipelines.
- Conduct deep-dive analysis of OS behavior, kernel features, and performance bottlenecks, identifying root causes of regressions and vulnerabilities.
- Research emerging Linux technologies, tools, and frameworks, evaluating their applicability to enhance the RHEL ecosystem.
- Collaborate with security, platform, and application teams to ensure compliance, security, and performance standards are met.
- Document processes, perform defect analysis, and deliver comprehensive RCA reports for OS-level issues.
