What we're looking for

The Legal Counsel will be part of the international legal team reporting to General Counsel and responsible for providing field legal support. The international legal team advices on a wide range of issues, ensuring compliance with local laws and regulations, and mitigating legal risks. This role requires a deep understanding of the legal landscape in the JAPAC region and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

Commercial Legal Support

  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents, including supplier contracts, service agreements, leases, and partnership arrangements.
  • Provide legal advice on corporate transactions, business operations, and regulatory compliance.
  • Support company secretarial and governance matters, including board resolutions, filings, and record-keeping.
  • Advise on employment, procurement, IT, data privacy, and real estate matters, as required.

Risk Management & Compliance

  • Identify and mitigate legal risks across business operations and projects.
  • Ensure compliance with local laws, industry regulations, and internal corporate policies.
  • Develop and implement legal compliance frameworks and training programs for employees.
  • Monitor and interpret changes in relevant laws and regulations that may impact the business.

External Counsel & Stakeholder Management

  • Engage and supervise external law firms, ensuring effective service delivery and cost efficiency.
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities, partners, and government bodies when required.
  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders — including HR, Finance, Operations, IT, and senior leadership — to provide timely and practical legal advice.

Policy & Process Development

  • Develop and update legal templates, policies, and standard operating procedures to ensure consistency and compliance.
  • Promote best practices in contract management, governance, and documentation.
  • Support corporate projects such as M&A, restructuring, or expansion initiatives.

Qualifications

We're seeking someone who:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree from a recognised institution.
  • Admission to practice law in at least one jurisdiction within the JAPAC region.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a legal role, preferably within a multinational IT corporation or law firm.
  • Strong knowledge of corporate, commercial, and employment law in the JAPAC region.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in an additional language (e.g., Mandarin, Japanese, or Bahasa) is advantageous for APAC roles.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High ethical standards and integrity.
