About Origin
Origin (previously 10xConstruction) is building general-purpose autonomous robots for US construction to tackle rising costs, safety risks, and labour shortages. Our modular, multi-trade platform combines purpose-built hardware with real-time site intelligence to navigate complex environments and execute tasks with precision. Trained in high-fidelity simulation and already deployed on live sites, our robots deliver 5x faster execution, 250%+ margin expansion, and significant cost savings. Join India's most talent-dense robotics team consisting of individuals from IITs, Stanford, UCLA, etc.
About The Role
As the Lead Mechanical Engineer - Enclosures and Harness, you will define the global body and nervous system of our robots. You will architect the high-performance, aesthetically-conscious enclosure systems that protect sensitive compute and sensors from the brutal realities of a construction site. Concurrently, you will own the global wire harness topology, ensuring reliable power and data distribution. You will set the standard for thermal management, EMI/EMC shielding, and design for serviceability, guiding the team from concept to mass production.
Key Responsibilities
Global Architecture (Enclosures & Harnessing):
- Architect the complete enclosure system for the robot, balancing industrial design aesthetics with extreme ruggedization (shock, vibration, dust, and water)
- Define the global wire harness architecture. Establish strict routing rules to separate high-voltage motor power lines from sensitive logic/sensor networks to prevent EMI
- Act as the design authority for all electromechanical packaging, ensuring that field technicians can easily access and service critical components
Advanced Thermal & Environmental Strategy:
- Lead the global thermal management strategy. Direct system-level Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analyses to design passive and active cooling solutions for high-compute brains and high-power motor drives
- Define and enforce strict Ingress Protection (IP65/IP67) standards across all modules
Compliance, V&V, and Manufacturing:
- Drive the product through rigorous environmental and regulatory approval processes (e.g., NEMA, UL, CE for enclosures and EMI/EMC)
- Establish the Verification and Validation (V&V) master plan for drop testing, vibration tables, and accelerated life testing
- Partner with contract manufacturers to optimize sheet metal fabrication, injection molding, and complex wire harness assembly (DFM/DFA)
Leadership:
- Mentor and lead a team of mechanical and electromechanical engineers, setting a culture of rigorous engineering and uncompromising quality
