Job Description

Role Summary
As a Lead STIBO STEP MDM Engineer, you will serve as the technical leader for design, development, and support of Staples Master Data Management (MDM) solutions built on the STIBO STEP platform.
You will coordinate with distributed teams (onshore + offshore), drive architecture and technical decisions, and ensure data governance, quality, and compliance across product and asset domains.
This role requires deep hands-on expertise in STIBO STEP configuration, data modeling, workflow automation, and integration patterns combined with strong leadership skills to guide contractors and junior engineers.

Duties and Responsibilities
Lead the design and implementation of STIBO STEP MDM solutions for product information management (PIM), supplier/vendor management, and omnichannel data syndication.
Implement Business Requirements STIBO STEP data models, business rules, workflows, validation rules, and golden record management.
Design and develop integrations between STIBO STEP and downstream systems including legacy AS400 systems, e-commerce platforms, data warehouses, analytics tools, and third-party marketplaces using REST APIs, STEPXML, and event-driven architecture.
Establish data governance frameworks including data stewardship workflows, data quality scorecards, match/merge algorithms, survivorship rules, and audit trails compliant with regulatory requirements.
Follow MDM best practices, defining standards for data onboarding, enrichment, syndication, and lineage tracking across the enterprise. Integrate with GDSN, Data Distributors such as Salsify or Syndigo.
Drive observability and monitoring, ensuring robust logging, performance metrics, data quality dashboards, and alerting using Splunk, New Relic, and STIBO STEP native monitoring capabilities.
Oversee production support for STIBO STEP platform including troubleshooting, performance tuning, hotfix deployment, and disaster recovery procedures.
Engage in STEP Upgrades, platform upgrades, and contribute to the STIBO STEP roadmap and investment discussions.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, or related field.
6+ years of experience in data management, MDM implementations, or PIM solutions, with at least 2+ years in a lead/mentoring role.
Strong hands-on experience with STIBO STEP platform (version 9.x or higher) including configuration, data modeling, workflow designer, business rule configuration, and IEP (Integration Endpoint) setup.
Expertise in product information management (PIM), including product data onboarding, enrichment, classification, attribute management, digital asset management (DAM), and multichannel syndication.
Experience with STIBO STEP integrations using STEPXML, REST APIs, webhooks, and connector frameworks to integrate with GDSN, e-commerce, analytics, and third-party systems.
Hands-on development skills in Java, JavaScript, Groovy scripting for custom business rules, data transformations, and automation within STIBO STEP.
Understanding of data governance principles including data quality management, master data stewardship, match/merge/survivorship strategies, and data lineage.
Knowledge of retail/e-commerce data domains including product hierarchies, vendor catalogs, pricing, promotions, and omnichannel fulfillment data requirements.

Preferred Qualifications
In addition to above requirements, additional knowledge on below is preferred.
STIBO STEP certification (Administrator, Developer, or Architect level).
Experience with PDX and GDSN Connector for enterprise data platforms, including Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, GCP Dataflow, or BigQuery.
Knowledge of data integration tools such as Nifi, Messaging queues such as Kafka or similar, Java Spring Boot or Spring Batch in conjunction with STIBO STEP.
