Lead - Metal Hedging & Risk Management
Job Summary:
The Lead - Metal Hedging & Risk Management will be responsible for managing the CW s
commodity exposure to Copper and Aluminium, ensuring price stability and margin
protection through effective hedging and risk management strategies. The role involves
working closely with LME/MCX brokers, banking partners, and internal teams to forecast
metal requirements, execute hedges, and align procurement and sales pricing to mitigate
volatility.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Metal Price Risk Management
. Monitor global and domestic copper and aluminium prices (LME, COMEX, MCX).
. Identify the company's natural hedge position between purchases and sales.
. Develop and execute hedging strategies using futures, forwards, and options.
. Recommend optimal hedge ratios and tenures based on forecasts and exposure.
. Establish dashboards for daily metal price tracking and exposure reporting.
2. Exposure Identification & Forecasting
. Work with procurement and sales to estimate metal requirements.
. Maintain exposure models integrating purchases, inventory, and sales.
. Forecast net exposure and potential P&L impact under different price scenarios.
. Coordinate with FP&A to integrate hedging outcomes into financial forecasts.
3. Hedging Execution & Operations
. Execute hedging transactions on approved exchanges or through authorized brokers.
. Ensure compliance with internal limits, policies, and regulatory guidelines.
. Track daily mark-to-market positions and reconcile with broker statements.
. Manage hedge settlement, rollovers, and profit/loss accounting.
. Maintain documentation and audit trails for all hedge transactions.
4. Pricing, Procurement & Sales Coordination
. Align sales pricing with hedged cost levels to maintain margin stability.
. Support procurement in negotiating metal premiums and conversion costs.
. Define price-linked mechanisms in customer contracts.
. Advise business teams on pricing adjustments based on market trends.
5. Controls, Compliance & Audit
. Ensure compliance with company hedging policies and accounting standards.
. Support internal and statutory audits on hedge documentation and accounting.
. Monitor adherence to approved risk limits and counterparty exposure.
. Implement risk reporting systems for open positions, P&L, and VaR tracking.
6. Market Intelligence & Strategy
. Track LME trends, macro indicators, and currency movements affecting prices.
. Build relationships with brokers and analysts for market insights.
. Prepare periodic reports for management on hedge performance.
. Support strategic sourcing and long-term contract decisions.
Qualifications & Experience:
. Education: CA
. Experience: 7-10 years with 3+ years in commodity risk management or treasury
(preferably copper/aluminium-related)
. Technical Skills: LME/MCX trading, hedge accounting, VaR, MTM, and SAP/ERP systems
. Experience in Cables & Wires, Metals, Electricals, or Non-Ferrous industries.
. Exposure to international trade, import/export pricing, and commodity risk controls
