Job Description

Bus & Truck | Operating Depots

Reports to: Head of Contract Manufacturing
Location: Mumbai, Pune with Need based Travel
Type: Full-time

Role Summary

Own the stabilization of newly launched EV buses and trucks at operating depots. You resolve early-life vehicle problems quickly, drive permanent fixes with the manufacturer and design teams, and ensure smooth induction of each new product into daily operation, so fleets reach target uptime and the customer's confidence is built from day one.

Key Responsibilities

Depot induction and stabilization

Plan and lead induction of new vehicles at depots: commissioning checks, charging readiness, driver and maintenance team briefing, and trial runs.

Run a structured stabilization program for each new product or batch (typically the first 3-6 months): daily issue tracking, uptime monitoring and escalation.

Deploy and manage field engineers at depots; ensure round-the-clock response during the initial run-in period.

Co-ordinate with maintenance and OEM tech support team for resolution of recurring issues.

Field Issue resolution along with OEMs for various ongoing projects

Problem resolution

Diagnose and resolve early-life issues across the e-powertrain, battery/BMS, charging, HV systems, thermal management, brakes, HVAC, body and electronics.

Use telematics, fault-code and fleet data to detect patterns, find root causes (8D, 5-Why, FTA) and separate product, process, charging-infrastructure and operator-driven causes.

Drive permanent corrective actions with the CM/OEM, design and suppliers, and verify fixes on the vehicle, including software updates and retrofits.

Manage retrofit and campaign rollout across depots, with tracking to closure.

Operations and customer interface

Be the technical point of contact for depot managers, fleet operators and STUs on new product issues.

Coordinate spare parts, service support and warranty resolution so vehicles are not off-road for long.

Train drivers and depot maintenance staff on operation, charging practices, HV safety and basic troubleshooting.

Support charging infrastructure readiness and performance (CCS2/GB-T, charger-vehicle compatibility, power availability).

Feedback and governance

Feed field learnings into design, manufacturing and PDI checkpoints to prevent recurrence in new builds.

Track stabilization KPIs and issue closure; report to leadership and customers through regular reviews.

Support warranty analysis and cost recovery from the CM/suppliers.

Lead and develop a team of field engineers and depot coordinators.

Authority

Prioritize and escalate field issues across CM, design and supplier teams

Recommend vehicle withdrawal, stop-use or campaign actions on safety-critical issues

Sign off on vehicle stabilization exit and handover to regular service

Qualifications

B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Automobile or Electrical/Electronics Engineering.

10-14 years in the automotive CV industry, with at least 6-8 years in field issue resolution, product stabilization, service or fleet operations. Direct experience with electric buses or trucks preferred.

Skills

Strong knowledge of bus and truck systems and EV architecture: battery, BMS, motor, inverter, charging, HV safety

Field diagnostics using EV diagnostic tools and telematics/fleet data

8D, 5-Why, FTA, FMEA, Pareto

Warranty, spare parts and service processes

Understanding of CMVR, AIS standards (AIS-038, 039, 156, 004) and depot operations

Stakeholder management with operators, STUs, OEMs and suppliers; calm and decisive under pressure

Valid HV safety training or certification is a plus

KPIs

Fleet uptime/availability during stabilization

Time to resolve (MTTR) and open-issue ageing

Repeat and early-life failure rate (per 1,000 km or per vehicle)

Retrofit/campaign closure rate

Depot and customer satisfaction

Warranty cost and recovery

Time to stabilization exit for each product

Working Conditions

Travel across depots (indicative 50-60%); may be stationed at a depot during launch; flexibility for extended hours during induction and breakdown escalations.
