Your impact

Position Overview

The candidate is responsible for delivering defined design packages for underground structures as part of the Transportation business.

The role focuses on independent execution of structural design tasks, coordination with multidisciplinary teams, and compliance with project standards and quality requirements.

The position supports design leads in the development and delivery of technically robust solutions for metro, rail, and urban infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Technical Delivery

  • Undertake structural analysis and detailed design of underground structures.
  • Develop and maintain structural models using approved software, ensuring correct load applications, staged construction inputs, and compliance with design criteria.
  • Prepare calculation reports, design notes, and technical documentation in accordance with internal and client requirements.
  • Review drawings and coordinate with CAD/BIM teams to ensure alignment with design intent and constructability considerations.
  • Support development of temporary works designs along with construction sequencing where required.

Interface & Coordination


  • Coordinate with geotechnical, architectural, alignment, MEP, and systems teams to resolve design interfaces and technical queries.
  • Provide structured responses to comments from clients, independent checking engineers, and proof checkers.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary reviews and ensure consistency of design outputs across interfaces.

Quality & Compliance


  • Adhere to project quality processes, including internal design checks, verification procedures, and document control protocols.
  • Ensure all deliverables conform to applicable codes, standards, and project specifications.
  • Support value engineering, risk identification, and mitigation activities within the design scope.

Construction Support (as Required)


  • Assist in addressing RFIs, shop drawing reviews, and site‑related technical clarifications.
  • Support Lead Engineer in resolving construction‑stage issues, including excavation, propping, waterproofing, and RC detailing matters.
  • Contribute to assessments of non‑conformances and preparation of remedial recommendations.

Team Contribution


  • Provide technical support and guidance to junior team members on modelling and design tasks.
  • Participate in technical discussions, lessons‑learned sessions, and internal capability‑building initiatives.
  • Demonstrate ownership of assigned tasks and uphold project delivery commitments.

Here's what you'll need

Education

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Structural Engineering.

Experience


  • 12–15 years of experience in structural design of underground structures.
  • Experience in Middle East project environments is advantageous.

Technical Skills


  • Proficiency in structural analysis and design software such as ETABS, STAAD Pro, MIDAS, Adsec, or equivalent.
  • Solid understanding of reinforced concrete design principles, deep excavation systems, and soil–structure interaction fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with relevant international codes (Eurocodes, ACI, AASHTO) and project‑specific standards.
  • Working knowledge of BIM and coordination workflows (AutoCAD/Revit).
