We are looking for a seasoned, hands-on Lead DBA / Database Engineer to play a pivotal role in ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of our platforms. This role blends database engineering, cloud infrastructure, automation, and reliability engineering, working closely with cross-functional teams to run large-scale, fault-tolerant systems on Google Cloud.
What You'll Do
- Lead design, implementation, and operations of highly available, scalable database systems
- Own production stability, performance tuning, scalability, and reliability
- Work hands-on with SQL & MongoDB (schema design, optimization, sharding, replication)
- Automate database and infrastructure operations using Shell, Python, and Terraform
- Define & track SLOs / SLIs, and proactively mitigate reliability risks
- Evaluate system architectures to identify bottlenecks and failure points
- Partner with Security teams on compliance, vulnerability management, and incident response
- Drive performance, cost optimization, and operational excellence
- Maintain strong documentation and promote knowledge sharing
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues in distributed systems
Required Skills & Experience
- 8+ years of experience in DBA / Database Engineering
- Strong expertise in SQL (design, indexing, tuning)
- Deep hands-on experience with MongoDB (aggregation, replication, sharding)
- Strong scripting skills: Shell, Python, Terraform
- Solid Google Cloud experience (Cloud SQL, HA/DR, monitoring)
- Experience supporting mission-critical production systems
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and cloud-native deployments
- Experience installing and troubleshooting Java applications
Nice to Have
- Bachelor's degree in computer science / engineering
- Experience with distributed systems, HA architectures & capacity planning
- Familiarity with ML/AI concepts for automation, anomaly detection, or predictive maintenance
