Lead BESS Electrical Engineer
Reports to: Senior Manager Battery Intelligence
We are looking for a hands-on, execution-focused Lead BESS Electrical Engineer who can
design, integrate, validate, and commission complete BESS systems from battery pack to
grid interconnection.
Core responsibilities
1. End-to-End Electrical Architecture
Define and review complete BESS electrical topology include DC bus architecture,
String sizing & C-rate validation, PCS integration, Auxiliary supply systems.
Develop SLDs, GA layouts, Protection schemes, Cable schedules
Make rapid engineering trade-offs between cost, performance, and scalability.
2. PCS & Inverter Technical Leadership
Evaluate and integrate PCS from various vendors.
Define Grid-forming / Grid-following strategy, Reactive power & frequency control,
Black start capability (if applicable)
Lead FAT, SAT, and performance validation.
3. Battery Pack & DC System Integration
Work closely with battery OEMs (LFP chemistry).
Validate DC current limits, Fuse & contactor selection, Pre-charge design, Arc flash
considerations.
Own BMS-PCS communication - CAN / Modbus TCP & Control logic validation
Ensure compliance with electrical & safety standards.
4. Power Electronics Oversight
Review inverter topology 2-level / 3-level, IGBT / SiC based systems
Evaluate Switching losses, Harmonics (THD), Thermal constraints
Support performance tuning during commissioning.
5. Electrical Protection & Grid Compliance
Conduct Protection coordination, short circuit studies, Load flow studies
Interface with DISCOM / utility approvals.
Ensure compliance with IEC / IEEE grid standards, Local regulatory requirements.
6. Installation & Commissioning (Hands-On)
Supervise cable laying & termination, switchgear installation, transformer
integration
Lead Insulation tests, Relay testing, Functional system tests, Grid synchronization
Resolve site issues in real time.
7. Cross-Functional Execution
Work with
o Mechanical team (thermal integration),
o Firmware team (BMS logic),
o Procurement (cost reduction),
o Data (Cell and pack testing, system integration tests with inverter).
Support technical customer discussions.
Desired Skills
Strong understanding of BESS system architecture, PCS & inverter integration,
Battery pack DC engineering, LV/HV systems up to 33 kV
Hands-on experience commissioning real projects.
Comfortable reviewing relay settings and grid compliance.
Qualifications
B.E / B.Tech / M.Tech in Electrical / Power Electronics.
810 years of experience in Utility-scale BESS, Solar + Storage hybrid systems, Power
electronics design.
Hands-on experience with
PSCAD / ETAP / DIgSILENT
AutoCAD / EPLAN
Strong knowledge of grid codes and protection systems.
