Job Title: Lab Technician
Job Description
The Lab Technician supports cross-functional engineering teams in mechanical, electrical, firmware, and testing domains. This role sits within a shared technical pool and focuses on PCB rework, lab upkeep, and operation of test equipment. The technician helps ensure the smooth functioning of engineering laboratories by maintaining equipment, supporting prototype builds, and assisting in verification and validation activities.
Responsibilities
- Perform PCB rework, including soldering, de-soldering, component replacement, and minor circuit modifications in an ESD-safe manner.
- Support engineers by assembling, handling, and preparing prototype hardware for testing.
- Operate standard lab test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, electronic loads, and environmental chambers.
- Maintain lab organization and cleanliness while following safety and ESD compliance practices.
- Track, calibrate, and maintain lab instruments, tools, and equipment to ensure they remain in proper working condition.
- Assist in basic electrical and mechanical measurements, including data logging and preparation of test setups.
- Follow engineering instructions, procedures, and work instructions accurately throughout all tasks.
- Document test observations, results, and issues clearly and accurately for engineering review.
- Manage inventory of components, tools, consumables, and test accessories to support ongoing engineering work.
- Support verification and validation teams during test execution as required, including setup, monitoring, and basic troubleshooting.
Essential Skills
- Engineering degree or diploma in Electronics, Electrical, or a related engineering discipline.
- Hands-on experience with PCB soldering and rework tools, including through-hole and surface-mount components, in an ESD-safe environment.
- Basic understanding of electronic components, circuits, and standard test methods.
- Ability to operate standard electrical and electronics lab test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, electronic loads, and environmental chambers.
- Strong documentation skills with high attention to detail when recording test setups, observations, and results.
- Ability to follow engineering instructions accurately and consistently.
- Effective teamwork and communication skills to collaborate with engineers across multiple disciplines.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working in an engineering laboratory environment.
- Familiarity with laboratory best practices for organization, safety, and ESD protection.
- Comfort managing inventories of components, tools, and consumables.
- Interest in supporting prototype builds, verification, and validation testing.
- Ability to perform basic electrical and mechanical measurements and data logging.
