Position Title: Lab Head National Reference Laboratory

Department: Lab

Location: Noida, Uttar Pradesh

Experience Required: 10+ years in Clinical Pathology (minimum 5 years in a leadership role)

Industry Preference: Diagnostics / Healthcare / Pathology / Medical Technology

Education: MBBS / MD in Pathology (or equivalent qualification)

Role Summary

The Lab Head will lead overall operations of the National Reference Laboratory (NRL), ensuring scientific excellence, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and smooth functioning across departments. This role requires a highly experienced clinical pathologist with strong leadership, technical expertise, and operational oversight capabilities.

Key ResponsibilitiesOperational Leadership

  • Oversee end-to-end operations of the NRL to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and uninterrupted workflow
  • Ensure strict adherence to turnaround time (TAT) across all specialties
  • Lead SOP creation, revision, approval, and implementation across departments
  • Maintain optimal equipment uptime, preventive maintenance, and vendor coordination
  • Oversee inventory planning, reagent monitoring, and cost optimization
  • Drive process improvements, automation upgrades, and overall operational efficiencies

Technical Competencies Strong Reporting Capabilities In

  • Hematology
  • Biochemistry
  • Immunology
  • Clinical Pathology
  • Basic Microbiology & Serology

Proficient In

  • Quality Control (IQC/EQAS)
  • Method validation, verification, and calibration
  • Establishing reference ranges
  • Clinical correlation and clinician consultation
  • Troubleshooting analytical and pre-analytical issues

Exposure To

  • Advanced laboratory automation, analyzers, middleware, LIS/HIS systems

Quality, Compliance & Accreditation

  • Thorough understanding and hands-on experience with ISO 15189:2022 standards
  • Must have led multiple NABL audits, including documentation, NC closure, and audit readiness
  • Ensure full compliance with:

NABL regulations

ICMR guidelines

Biomedical Waste Management guidelines

Internal & external quality programs (EQAS, IQC)

  • Oversee internal audits, risk assessments, CAPA, and ensure zero major non-conformities
  • Supervise safety protocols, incident reporting, and biosafety compliance

Key DeliverablesLeadership & Team Management

  • Lead a multi-disciplinary team including Pathologists, Microbiologists, Quality Managers, Supervisors, and Technicians
  • Conduct training programs, competency assessments, and performance reviews
  • Promote a culture of quality, discipline, continuous learning, and accountability
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills for conflict resolution and team motivation

Customer Interaction & Business Support

  • Manage customer escalations, clinician consultations, and analytical queries
  • Support Sales/Business teams with technical expertise during client onboarding
  • Provide inputs on MIS, quality indicators, and operational dashboards
  • Contribute to launching new tests and services based on business requirements

Strategic Contributions

  • Support planning for new departments, lab expansion, and modernization
  • Lead digital transformation, workflow optimization, and automation enhancements
  • Benchmark performance with national and international quality standards
  • Drive cost reduction initiatives while maintaining quality and service excellence

Preferred Profile

  • MBBS / MD in Pathology (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in Clinical Pathology
  • Minimum 5 years in a senior leadership role managing large diagnostic laboratory operations
  • Experience handling high sample volumes and multi-disciplinary teams
  • Strong decision-making, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication abilities
  • High sense of ownership, discipline, and accountability
  • Ability to work under pressure in a high-volume, fast-paced diagnostics environment
  • Strong ethical standards and commitment to patient safety
