o Ash content
o Moisture content
o Sulfur content
o Calorific value
o Volatile matter
o Fixed carbon
o Particle size distribution
o Trace element analysis
o JCV

Ensure all coal testing follows standardized industry protocols (ASTM, ISO, etc.) and internal laboratory procedures.

Use a range of laboratory instruments and equipment (e.g., altimeters , ash fusion testers, spectrometers, etc.) to conduct analysis.

Maintain accurate records of all test results and samples, ensuring compliance with quality management systems.

Conduct periodic checks and calibrations on laboratory equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results.

Quality Control & Reporting :-

Generate detailed laboratory reports on test results, including analysis of trends, variances, and any out-of-specification values.

Interpret test data, providing insights into coal quality and making recommendations for corrective actions where necessary.

Monitor coal quality trends over time and communicate any quality issues or concerns to the Quality Control Manager or relevant department heads.

Review and update testing methods and protocols to ensure that the lab's testing procedures align with the latest industry standards and regulations

Sample Preparation & Handling :-
Collect and prepare coal samples from various production stages, ensuring proper sample handling, storage, and transportation to prevent contamination or degradation.

Follow prescribed safety guidelines when handling hazardous chemicals, samples, and testing equipment.

Ensure the accuracy of sample sizes and representative sampling procedures to produce reliable results

Collaboration & Communication

Work closely with the quality control and production teams to ensure that laboratory findings are effectively communicated and integrated into operational processes.

Provide technical support to the production team on coal quality issues, offering recommendations for improvement based on lab findings.

Collaborate with other chemists and laboratory staff to maintain an efficient and effective lab environment

Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance:-

Laboratory Maintenance & Inventory Management :-

Maintain laboratory supplies, chemicals, and reagents, ensuring that stock levels are adequate and that any expired materials are disposed of properly.

Regularly inspect and clean laboratory equipment, ensuring all instruments are functioning correctly and are calibrated per manufacturer guidelines.

Assist in ordering new supplies and chemicals as needed, keeping within budgetary constraints

Requirements

Qualifications :-

Education:-

Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field.

Specialized training or certification in laboratory techniques, chemical analysis, or coal quality control is a plus.

Additional certification in laboratory safety (e.g., HAZWOPER) or quality management (e.g., ISO 9001) is an advantage

Experience :-

Minimum 2-4 years of experience working in a laboratory, preferably within the coal, mining, energy, or related industries.

Hands-on experience with coal testing methods, including analysis of ash, sulfur, moisture, calorific value, and trace elements.

Familiarity with the operation and maintenance of laboratory testing equipment commonly used in the coal industry (e.g., altimeters, spectrometers, ash analyzers, etc.)

Skills:-

Strong knowledge of coal quality parameters, industry standards, and best practices in coal testing.

Proficiency in laboratory techniques and the use of various chemical analysis tools and equipment.

Excellent attention to detail, with a focus on accuracy and precision in test results.
