Job Purpose:
The Quality Control Officer plays a key role in supporting the company's commitment to food safety, product quality, and regulatory compliance. The Quality Control Officer supports supplier and product document review, assists with laboratory testing and inspection coordination, and maintains quality records. The role ensures documents such as specifications, Certificates of Analysis (COAs), and inspection reports are complete, accurate, and traceable from supplier to shipment, while upholding food safety and quality standards through timely followup on gaps or discrepancies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and verify supplier documents and specifications, assist in preparing documentation for internal and customer approvals, and ensure supplier, product, and documentation compliance with customer and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate and conduct supplier inspections and audits and follow up on corrective and preventive actions.
- Plan and coordinate food and beverage laboratory testing based on approved sampling plans and risk assessments.
- Review laboratory test results (Certificates of Analysis COAs) against product specifications using a scientific approach, manage and maintain COAs, and escalate non compliant or abnormal results to ensure accuracy, traceability, and linkage to batches and shipments.
- Plan and coordinate pre shipment inspections with suppliers and third party inspectors, and review inspection reports prior to shipment release.
- Review and manage all shipping documentationincluding Certificates of Analysis (COAs), inspection reports, invoices, health certificates, certificates of origin, and packing liststo ensure consistency with approved specifications and full alignment across shipments.
- Coordinate quality control checks to ensure that no non compliant products are released, shipped, or delivered
- Review nonconformities reported from operations or inspections for food planned for supply or already supplied, assist in coordinating corrective actions with suppliers, and track documentation until closure
- Maintain end to end traceability across shipping, laboratory, batch, and inspection records, ensuring accurate and current quality documentation.
- Perform site visits to suppliers and operational locations as necessary to support quality assurance and operational requirements.
- Ensure effective and timely communication on quality control matters with laboratories, third party inspectors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders
Skills & Qualifications:
- A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible professional experience in quality control and quality control of food, food safety, or related functions within food production, food services, or food supply chain operations is required.
- Proven experience in the application of food safety management systems, including ISO 22000 or equivalent systems, HACCP principles, food laboratory analysis, and/or food safety inspections and audits, is required.
- Demonstrated experience in supplier and product qualification, compliance verification, and the implementation of food safety control measures throughout the supply chain is required
Education & Certifications:
- A university degree (or equivalent) in a life science is required, preferably in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, or a related field.
- Certification as an ISO 22000:2018 Food Safety Management System (FSMS) Lead Auditor or FSSC 22000 Lead Auditor.
