About The Role
We're looking for a full-time, on-site Junior Copywriter who can move seamlessly between editorial storytelling and brand communication.
This role is for someone who understands that copy isn't just writing it's positioning, tone, strategy, and impact. You will work across long-form editorial, social media, brand campaigns, pitch decks, and cultural storytelling projects.
You must be based in Mumbai (ideally suburbs).
What You'll Do
1. Editorial & Cultural Writing
- Research and write essays, interviews, opinion pieces, and reported stories aligned with Gaysi's voice and values.
- Cover LGBTQIA+ issues with depth and nuance across gender, caste, disability, mental health, and intersectional movements.
- Pitch and develop original story ideas centering marginalized queer voices.
- Conduct interviews and community-led research to produce thoughtful, culturally relevant pieces.
2. Brand & Campaign Copy
- Write compelling copy for brand campaigns, digital assets, pitch decks, and creative proposals.
- Develop messaging frameworks and tone of voice guidelines for partner brands.
- Craft social media copy (short-form, hooks, captions, scripts) that drives engagement and community resonance.
- Translate complex cultural conversations into accessible, brand-ready narratives.
- Collaborate with designers and strategists to shape integrated campaign ideas.
3. Strategy & Collaboration
- Adapt writing style across formats: long-form features, website copy, scripts, campaign taglines, and social-first content.
- Stay updated on queer discourse in South Asia and globally to ensure cultural accuracy and relevance.
- Work closely with editors, designers, and the creative team to execute high-quality multimedia content.
- Incorporate feedback from editorial and creative leads to refine and strengthen work.
Who You Are
- 1+ years of writing experience (editorial, journalism, agency, brand, or freelance).
- Strong understanding of how tone shifts between editorial voice and brand voice.
- Able to think both creatively and strategically you can write the headline and explain why it works.
- Deeply familiar with Gaysi's past work and the South Asian queer media landscape.
- Comfortable writing about LGBTQIA+ issues with sensitivity, intersectionality, and political awareness.
- Lived experience within the LGBTQIA+ community is strongly preferred.
- Experience working with community-led platforms, nonprofits, or culture-focused brands is a plus.
- Self-driven, collaborative, and excited to work in a small, impact-led team.
Location & Compensation
Location: On-site, Khar West, Mumbai
Compensation: 4.0 4.5 LPA (based on experience)
